Beware Of The Fish Book Review
"Beware of the Fish" by Gordan Korman: A Review

'Beware The Fish' is one of the funniest books I have ever read in my life. It is about two boys named Bruno and Boots who go to a boarding school called 'Macdonald Hall'. Their headmaster is a grim man named Mr. Sturgeon(a.k.a
'The Fish'. A sturgeon is a kind of fish.) It all started when Elmer
Drimsdale, school genius invented somethingthat is sort of like a television broadcaster. He didn't know it really worked!!!! When Bruno and Boots found out their school was broke and needed more money, Bruno began to think up schemes to put their school on the map.All his attempts seemed to fail, so he vented his anger on the television broadcaster, not knowing it actually worked. He accidentally

"The Shark Net", by Robert Drewe, is a vibrant memoir focusing upon the simple pleasures of growing up in Perth, Western Australia, in the '50s. Drewe examines his life in sleepy friendly Perth, using techniques such as language, structure and selection of detail. These techniques contribute to the understanding of the events in Drewe's life while growing up in the small city of Perth and the astounding change of the city when it was victimised with countless murders.…

In “Too Fishy for my Taste Buds”, written by Bill McEwen, he suggests the idea to not use the River Restoration Plan. Similarly, I don’t believe in spending so much money, for a plan with no absolute guarantee. In my opinion, the Restoration plan is expensive and overall quite trivial. Although, I agree with McEwen, it isn’t only because of his great thesis but also because he is proven to be very credible. He’s given this title because of his 35-year career at Fresno Bee.…

Bill McEwin in the article “River Plan to fishy for my taste buds”, states that some people are suffering more than others. McEwin supports his claim by saying there is two major problems: 1. No salmon 2. No money. The others purpose is to inform you of government decided plans and how they can hurt many people in order to show that others are suffering because of this poorly made decision and how a once flowing river is now nothing more than a dried up desert. The author wrote in an informative/opinionated tone for the…

In the novel “rumble fish” the writer S.E.Hinton illustrates sometimes we want to forget what happened in the past by crossing out that memory. The story begins when James sees Steve for the first time in five years. At first James could not remember who Steve was because he has a memory loss, but when Steve tells him he starts to remember. Steve stares at James’s scar that runs down on his side, James says, “I got that in a knife fight, a long time ago” (Hinton 3). The article “The Poisoned Fish” by Ken Macrorie is about a way of writing called Engfish. Engfish is the way students have been conditioned to write that, in a way, hinders the creativity in their writing. It is when students write exactly what they think their teachers want, in terms of grammar and word choice, and quit writing with their own voice.…

In the documentary Black fish, Gabriella Cowperthwaite (2013) illustrated the truth behind SeaWorld. The director uses Logos, Ethos, and Pathos to persuade the viewer to think twice before attending SeaWorld and viewing it as a haven for orcas. SeaWorld may have changed and updated some of their safety precautions now, but it used to be a concrete prison that confined several orcas in and inhumane and misunderstood environment.…

Paul Klee’s painting “Fish Magic” is very profound. It looks like it is trying to tell a story about kids visiting an aquarium. What seems very interesting is the clock in the picture. It only has 4 digits and it represents the date that the painting was created. I don’t believe that this painting is a reflection to the paintings of the 1920’s even though it has an expressionist style. I believe the quote “my aim is to create much spirituality out of little” means that he can create anything big out of…

The book, Honor and the American Dream: Culture and Identity in a Chicano Community, and the film, Salt of the Earth, both relay to their audience, the pursuit of happiness within the Chicano community in which they live. These works aim to show how Mexican-American immigrants fight to keep both their honor and value systems alive in the United States of America, a country which is foreign to their traditions. The Mexican-Americans encountered in these works fight for their culture of honor in order to define themselves in their new homeland, a homeland which honors the American dream of successful capitalism.…

“Take This Fish and Look at it*” by Samuel H. Scudder is the most compelling essay for this week’s reading assignment because the author wrote in an organized, laughable tone; therefore, allowing its audience to perceive the lesson as the professor intended it to be learned. Likewise, Scudder used three different apparent modes in his essay, these include: comparison / contrast, narrative, and description. I particularly liked this essay because it relates to the great significance that in every scenario, even writing, that things can be overlooked and need to be re-examined to find better, more sufficient details. Scudder also uses humor throughout his narrative, which compared to some essays, is quite enjoyable. Overall, every individual…
