Beyond Perfection: Video Analysis
The video that I watched was called Beyond Perfection: Female Body Dimorphic Disorder. The video featured a woman named Jennifer who strives to be perfect in her looks. It takes her about 3 hours to get ready in the morning because she never fully loves how she looks with or without make-up. So far, Jennifer has had a nose job and a procedure to slightly sand down the top layer of her skin. Though she has had these procedures, she feels like she looks disfigured. Jennifer claims that if she were beautiful, or even pretty, that her life would be perfect and she would finally be happy.
I have gone through something similar to what Jennifer is going through right now. I was obsessed with perfection and became depressed whenever I could not achieve

After a short and brief anchor introduction WGN’s, Erik Runge, tells his story on the upcoming bad allergy season through a donut live shot. In his introduction live shot, Runge stumbles a bit, but then quickly recovers from it by restating the word and pretending like it never happened. Runge’s b-roll video that was shot in the same perimeter just through different angles around the same lake area in Lincoln Park was lacking and did not compliment the story well at all. Some close up b-roll on growing plants was more effective than the other videos because it represented pollen, a main cause of allergies. Runge also only followed around one allergy victim who did not have many powerful things to say beyond the obvious negative comments on…

When building many of the castles in the 1300-1400’s the main purpose was to keep the enemies out and of course for conquest. In the video I watched, the Forbidden Knowledge video, they called out some very key point of why and how these fortresses and castles where erected and defended. Not only where there kings of the lands, but then each of those lands were divided up to noble kin and lords. They were always trying to better there futures with more land, even if that included killing your own cousin to get his piece of land. One great example of an intuitive fortress, Caesar had made a donut shaped fortress at one point around a small town; he shut out and was starving the people in the town and then also keeping out the men that were…

For a long period of time, 24 frames per second was looked in the film industry as a standard. But with major advances in film technology in the most recent years, movies such as The Hobbit are one of the first to contain 48 frames per second. The result of this is a better and more clear visual quality in the film.…

The physical attractiveness factor in here is due to it is a product that you use to make yourself feel better about yourself. She should look and feel good about herself so that she can sell her products. If you have someone who don’t take care of themselves trying to sell you a product about looking good you really aren’t going to buy that because they don’t look that great. Now when you have someone who looks good and uses a product them usually you are more willing to buy their product. Physical attractiveness is all around us. In today’s society we are supposed to look a certain way and act a certain way it isn’t right. I think that she used the cosmetic surgery to feel better about herself and then went and built a business around feeling better and trying to sell a product about beauty.…

“Besides making judgments about space, a viewer projects a stream of hypotheses about such factors as time, causality, character personality and motive, the efficacy of action, exposition, enigmas, plausibility, ethics, metaphors, rhythm, point of view, and much more. In general, a viewer comes to understand scenes by making detailed models of events. What might be termed the “classical” camera stands in for those procedures that have been successful in the past. When a viewer’s confidence in his or her predictions is high (i.e. the viewer’s constructed, mental models are well developed and reasonably supported by evidence), the film achieves a high degree of “reality...” (Branigan, 2013)…

The Sarah Bartmaan video today had some very shocking mistreatment of African Americans. I don’t understand how Europeans could justify their actions of treating another human being like that. Also to know that people still went to see her pickled remains for almost a century after her death showed that it was more than one person that contributed to this. People thought that African Americans were a different species and weren’t even human. We can also see this in our society today. I grew up outside the Bronx, and my school was mainly comprised of African American and Hispanic people. My cousins that lived just outside the city in the suburbs, went schools were the population was 90% white. It is almost like our races still keep us separate…

The video Dawn of Humanity is an interesting lesson about trying to bridge that gap between the Australopiths and homo genus. They briefly talk about previous finds such as Lucy and the different characteristics of Australopiths and homos. We watch how Professor Lee Berger worked with a group of scientist and climbers to explore a cave system that held thousands of bone fragments. Two cave climbers Steve and Rick were the ones who originally found the bones and took photos of them to show their friend Pablo who showed Lee. This is what started the Rising Star excavation. Lee found 11 scientists who were small enough to fit in the caves and bring out the fossils. It was a three-week project where they found 2,000 bone fragments that belonged to 12 different people. They were able to determine that it was a new member of the homo genus.…

How does one measure beauty? Is it measured by the depth of an individual’s personality, or perhaps by the goodness of a person’s heart? Of course that would entail actually having to interact with someone longer than the casual glance and judge routine we have spent generations mastering. No matter how twisted, cracked, and deformed a person’s soul may be doesn’t matter, as long as they have enough cosmetics to cake on and can afford some minor surgery that is. In today’s society we measure beauty through what we see and what we are told is beautiful, because deciding on our own would just be too difficult. Thankfully we have the influence of things like television and celebrities to guide the way into the glamorous world of beautiful people. Because who cares if the majority of your beauty could be removed with a moist tissue and you haven’t seen food in a week as long as you look pretty.…

In today’s society we have a distorted view of beauty. We see thin as good and women have actually convinced themselves that the skinnier the better. In our world today, a Barbie is a figure of beauty and perfection. Women are willing to go through surgery in order to look like Barbie. There is something completely wrong with that, and leads my thoughts to “How did it get to this?”.…

The flaws that she sees in herself causes her self-esteem to be unusually low to almost non-existent; this combination of low self-esteem and unrealistic ideal leads to her wanting more of a Barbie doll look, further compounding her lack of self-esteem. With all of the cosmetic surgeries she has undergone, Cindy Jackson has presented herself as a success story and is helping to advertise cosmetic procedures that help enhance a person’s physical beauty.…

"The Dove® Campaign for Real Beauty” was created to provoke discussion and encourage debate”(Dove 2). When the project was started, a study was conducted in order to gather research for the areas they really needed to hit. Women from 10 different countries, ages 18-64, were questioned and out of the 3,200 women who were interviewed, the shocking percent of only 2% of those women thought of themselves as beautiful and only 13% of them were satisfied with their body shape and weight. That means that 85% of the other women didn't think of themselves as beautiful or feel good in their own skin(The Influences 62). The campaign started in September of 2004 when they sent out pictures of women who didn't fit the social norms and encouraged people to cast votes of what they thought of the women. Their next step was to show real women with real curves and "debunk the stereotype that only thin is beautiful”(Dove 4). One of their projects included team of filmers getting together and putting together a video showing everyone the drastic measures photographers do to make a picture perfect before it is submitted for a magazine, website, etc. They were shown how the photos can be changed by blemish repair, shrinking or enlarging body parts, and even making the model taller or shorter(Dove 9)! News of…

Yet the most contradictory routine our culture has developed, is that even though we preach “you are beautiful just the way you are,” we still have vast amounts of brands for make-up, hair products, slimming pills, and even surgery for those who can afford it, just so that people can feel “prettier” than they already are. We go off in our little worlds, loving people not for who they are or who they will be, but…

Society manifests its obsession with physical perfection by having surgical procedures done on daily basis. These surgeries allow for almost any cosmetic transformation. For example a person can have anything from removing a birthmark to inserting breast implants to having a tummy tuck done on their body. Society manifests their obsession with physical perfection by having these procedures done to them. These procedures enable society to achieve "perfection", much like Georgiana in the "Birthmark".…

This video The Growing Years was very interesting and captivating. This video is related to the chapter in multiple ways. It explains things such as the levels of metal life, the provinces of the mind and the dynamics of personality. “To Freud, mental life is divided into two levels, the unconscious and the conscious. In Freudian psychology the three levels of mental life are used to designate both a process and a location” (Feist, Feist, & Roberts, 2013, p.26). The video begins explaining a baby’s personality and how since little (12 months) a baby has a personality of its own and how they are also very independent in their own way. Our personality is what makes all of us distinctive and unique. The video also explained questions such as…
