Bim's Program Analysis
BIM's reading specialist uses the Woodcock-Johnson curriculum and testing assessments to measure and track educational gains. The instructor measures progress weekly throughout each semester/summer session.

The math instructor uses Tennessee State Math Standards curriculum and examinations. Teachers assess student progress by conducting assessments once a week to measure their progress. Final exams are given at the end of each semester/summer session to measure progress.

BIM's program evaluation measures are consistent with the Tennessee Department of Education Principals of Effectiveness; as a systematic collection, analysis, and interpretation of objective data. BIM teachers administer pre-test and post-test assessments to measure the improvement/success

According to the Institute of Healthcare Improvement (IHI) Measurement is a critical part of testing and implementing changes; measures tell a team whether the changes they are making actually lead to improvement (IHI, 2015). Reading the measurement page on the IHI website was eye opening. I am familiar with outcome and balancing measures and process measures. I am currently developing a Population Health Management (PHM) program in my Integrated Behavioral Care 712 class. I review the IHI website weekly for suggestions and information to develop my program.…

Results may take time to be returned to the student/parent, feedback to the student is usually very limited, and the student usually has no opportunity to be reassessed. Thus, Summative Assessment tends to have the least impact on improving an individual student 's understanding or performance. Students/parents can use the results of Summative Assessments to see where the student 's performance lies compared to either a standard (MEAP/MME) or to a group of students (usually a grade-level group, such as all 6th graders nationally, such as Iowa Tests or ACT). Teachers/schools can use these assessments to identify strengths and weaknesses of curriculum and instruction, with improvements affecting the next year 's/term 's…

One type of formal assessment teachers use is midterm exams. This type of assessment is a high-stakes exam, often presented to the students at the mid-point of the school year to determine the mastery of skills and concepts the teacher has taught. The midterm exam is given in a very structured environment. Students are given a predetermined amount of time to complete the task on a predetermined date, which allows for consistency throughout numerous classes. The exam can consist of several different methods such as essays, multiple-choice, matching, or short answer, depending on what the test creator believes is important and appropriate. An advantage of midterm exams is that students have plenty of notification beforehand that the assessment is coming up, giving them ample opportunity to seek help in areas they may be struggling in. However, a disadvantage is that the exam may not accurately measure a student’s…

Achievement data is gathered to mainly assess student performance and learning outcomes in the form of grades, performance, and standardized test scores (Dollarhide & Saginak, 2012). The ASCA National Model outlines a variety of methods that can be used in order to obtain this data. One method defined is the Results Report, which aligns with results data. The Results Report collects data is recorded and distributed to administrators, parents, and teachers in order to be disaggregated and reviewed in order to evaluate program effectiveness and areas that need improvement (Dollarhide & Saginak, 2012). The Results Report includes components such as grade level, lesson content area, curriculum and materials used, process data, short-term perception data, intermediate and long-term results…

It is important for me as a future teacher to learn about IRI’s and they will be a great tool for me to use in my classroom. Since IRI’s closely resemble students real reading, I will be able to gain an understanding of the areas that my student needs help in. An IRI will allow me to make curricular decisions by determining my students instructional level and making decisions to form needs-based reading groups. Running records will be a great tool to help me evaluate my students oral reading and identify any error patterns. A running record can be administered quickly and frequently therefore it will give me the ability to stay on top of my students reading level. Since benchmark text kits are a combination of IRI’s and running records, I feel…

This article will provide an overview of the NCTM process and content standards. Educators first studying the standards may feel overwhelmed with the amount of content addressed within each grade-level span. State frameworks that dictate standards for each grade level exacerbate this situation. However, a longitudinal view will show how the same topics are developed over several years in a spiral and interconnected pattern. For example, the concepts of multiplication and division are introduced in the PreK-2 band, but fluency with these operations isn't expected until the 3-5 band. Multiplication and division skills are used in grades 6-8 with problem solving and algebraic equations and in grades 9-12 with vectors, matrices, and other advanced applications. It is critical to keep in mind that deeper study of a few topics is more important for student learning than covering dozens of discrete topics at a surface level.…
