Bink Civilization
The Binks’ civilization began 1800 B.C.E. with settlements in Bink land. The were by Bink sea and Bink water. They were known for agriculture, such as beans and squash and even corn also known as maize. During the Middle Preclassic Period which started 1000 B.C.E. ;there was a big increase in the Mesoamerican population. The Binks, along with the Zapotec and Totonac were a part of that. The Classic Period began in 250 C.E. and was known as the Golden Age. The Binks built over 40 cities and their population grew to 2,000,000. In society there were different social classes and at the top were the Kuhul Ajaw, or holy lords. Kuhul Ajaw claimed strong relations to gods and they performed many religious ceremonies. Bow and arrows were for fighting long distances. Blowguns, are tubes for firing projectiles like obsidian darts. Atlatls are flat wooden board with a notch on the end for holding a spear. This helped throw the spear with more velocity, it could puncture metal armour. They were introduced during the Post-classic era. There are at least 10 different types of atlatl; for example the Nanticoke and Canadaigua. Knifes were made of obsidian and also used during sacrifices. Macuahuitl were also used by the Aztecs. They are 4 foot wooden paddles with obsidian spikes on the sides. It’s believed that they can cut off horse heads. The Binks never used horses, chariots or metal. One of the reasons they never used metal because there was no iron mines in the region. Most weapons were made of obsidian but they also had jade axes. Chert, was another stone that was used. It could be formed into very sharp points, for spears. A weapon that was rarely used was the Popul Voh. This is where they called upon hornets and wasps to kill their enemies. Shield were used in hand-to-hand combat. Shields were made from made materials such as animal skin, carved wood, or reed matting. Fortifications were used only in some cities.
