Biofuel
Summary:
Biofuels are organic produced or food waste crops, many suppliers are using crops in the production of biofuel as it is also a main source for people consumption and for livestock. Nowadays, the process of rising prices of crops (Agriculture commodities) has a big effect in rising prices in the market due to high demand of biofuel, and recently the increasing demands of grains to make biofuel has exceeded the supply. Driving prices to up for crops led to increase on the prices of meat and eggs, and Farmers need big land for production because the high demand that they can't face it. Many obstacles are facing USA such as in importing from Brazil and Ukraine which are the good land for crops due to transportations. Government subside the biofuels to make sure it is profitable, so any extra will be used to make more biofuel instead of increasing or decreasing oil prices.

Problem identification:
The main problem that the author is trying to explain is relationship of growing demand of oil and the use of grains to make biofuels, increase in demanding of corps for livestock, and human consumption with decreasing of production from some grain which led the demand exceeded the supply and how it affected the prices to be high on the market in the same time of facing obstacles in importing from other countries. In economic view, rising demand of grains as main source for biofuel has a big effect on driven up the prices of grains on society as its facing problem in supplying due to people consumption and livestock.

Biofuels are made from the starch or oil portion of plant materials. Some are even made from the fats of animals. In general, ethanol is the fermented starch fuel and biodiesel is the refined oil and fats. Biofuels are important PART of the solution to declining and ever more expensive petroleum supplies. Biofuels can be used together with technologies such as hybrid vehicles and plug-in vehicles. The Chevy Volt is announced to be a plug-in vehicle with a small Flex Fuel Vehicle engine to charge the batteries. Even the new Cadillac Escalade hybrid has been announced as a Flex Fuel Vehicle.…

The demand for corn as an ingredient for an alternative energy source has had a profound effect on its supply as a core food ingredient. So, what has been the effect on the supply of corn and its substitute such as the soybean? The answer can be found by examining the five demand determinants and five supply determinants to see which ones will shift demand and supply. The demand determinants are known as T-I-P-E-N, which stands for Taste of preference, Income, Price of complements and substitutes, Expectation of consumer, and Number of buyers in the market. The supply determinants are known as P-R-E-S-T, which stands for Producers (number of), Resource price, Expectation of business, Subsidies and taxes, and Technology. The farming industry has had to ramp up production of corn to satisfy the demand that was caused by the increase in the number of buyers. More buyers will generate more income, so most likely farmland will be used to produce more corn. The determinants of Number of buyers and Income are responsible for this demand shift. The land available for soybean crops will decrease, resulting in a reduction of supply. This supply shift is the result of Producers (number of).…

In fact, in a study, Iowa State University found corn in over 700 non-food products; ranging from toothpaste to biofuel to even explosives. With roughly 40% of corn turned into biofuel, the industry is expected to value at about 185 billion dollars by the year 2021. Although this industry generates an immense amount of wealth, many criticize the multi-billion dollar industry on wasting land for biofuel crops instead of food. Anyone involved in this industry struggles with finding the correct balance between feeding the people and gaining large sums of money because of biofuel. Consequently, the impactful stakes of the industry create controversy with political policies because it involves economic, agricultural, and environmental…

The Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 mandates that by 2022 36 billion gallons of biofuels will be produced in the United States. 15 billion gallons of this biofuel is expected to come from corn. (1) This will require the sacrifice of enough food to feed 166,000,000 people--over half the current population of the United States. This doesn't even take into consideration that it takes at least 2/3 gallon of fossil fuel, by the US Department of Energy's own figures, to produce one gallon of ethanol. (2) (Ethanol producers do not use ethanol to produce ethanol because it is too expensive.)…

With the demand for fossil fuels growing through out the world, there is with out a doubt a lack of supply for this demand. The United States is the world's highest consumer of fossil fuels because of the amount of Automobiles that we have on the roads every day. This is not one of the statistics that a country should be proud of being at the top of. Since the United States is the leader of the consumption of these fossil fuels, the government is making an effort to look for alternative fuels that we can use and substitute these new types of fuel in place of oil and gasoline to preserve our fossil fuels and make them last longer. One of the fuels that they are looking into is ethanol or CH3CH2OH which is the chemical make up of ethanol.…

Biofuels is the term given to living or recently living biological material which can be used to fuel cars and other forms of transport they can be derived from any Biomass include animal waste products. One of the main advantages of Biofuels is that they are almost carbon neutral; when a crop is growing it performs photosynthesis to create sugars and other organic compounds that provide energy during this process plants take in CO2 when these crops are turned into Biofuels and burned this CO2 is realised back into the atmosphere as no more CO2 has been added it is carbon neutral however some CO2 is produced in transporting these crops and turning them into Biofuels so they are not completely carbon neutral. Unlike fossil fuels such as petrol Biofuels are a renewable energy source this means they will not run out as crops can be grown back relatively quickly. Biofuels can be created anywhere in the world meaning it is accessible to many people. Biofuels are also cheaper to run than petrol or diesel with the price of petrol rising due to it depleting amount Biofuels are…

The price increase of corn would lead to an increase in the price of corn oil. Corn will act as a high raw material cost in producing corn oil. Moreover as the demand for corn is to be used in the production of alternate energy rises, the total quantity supplied for production of corn oil would decrease initially whereas the quantity demanded for corn will remain the same and hence the price of corn will rise which ultimately cause the price of corn oil to rise.…

As stated on Page 13 of the case, Bunge has several options in how to participate in the biofuels market. First, they could be more active in sugarcane-based ethanol. Advantages to the company include: a large amount of land in Brazil for the growth of sugarcane as well as relatively cheap labor; however, there is a substantial investment of $200 million. Second, they could produce more palm oil in Asia, which also requires significant investment in production facilities. Both methods result in a new position for the company consisting of the actual management of farming the commodity rather than just purchasing and processing. While removing the extra middleman from this methods could result in extraneous savings, Bunge currently is lacking in this area and has no material experts on staff.…

The food process was directly affected by the rise in oil prices. As oil prices increased, fertilizer, food transpiration and industrial agricultural prices rose as well. Rice prices were up 217%, wheat 136%, corn 125% , soybeans 107%, and the prices of meat and dairy more than doubled. Discussion after the food crisis focused on quick fixes of contributing factors—like increase use of bio energy — to prevent price growth, food production should outpace population growth. During this time, the price hike of food lead to many people switching to small scale farmers and buying from farmers markets because they were cheaper. There are three major aspects of the small scale organic farming that are important to note.…

The main justifications found for this phenomenon are based on global warming and environmental pollution as well the scarcity of petroleum sources around the world. The first biofuels generation use crops as raw material or feedstock, and mostly they are biodiesel and bioethanol, which accounts for over 90% of biofuels that is currently used in the world. In Brazil, Sweden and the United States there are 6 million vehicles that can accept mixtures ethanol/gasoline to 85%. The processing steps are different depending biofuels and raw materials used to obtain the final product. Main steps for bioethanol production, and the technologies used in the first generation are simpler than second generation are, which are based on cellulosic material. In addition, the production costs and investment are lower for the first generation, and it has promoted its popularity (Gonzalez, 2009). However, popularity doesn't necessarily mean benefits, and there are several critiques to biofuels as well as there are praises about this new…
