Though what played a key role in his religious life would be his older brother. They spent amounts of time thinking and discussing about faith and religion, “not something brothers would normally do,” as mentioned by Brian. He also stated having 2 teachers and a guidance counselor in his college years that have made religious influences on him, one of which was even a Psychology professor. The Jesuits and co-workers in the Campus Ministry in college were said to be infuential as well. During that time in college, he also attended a retreat much like the Days With The Lord program of Xavier School, called Kairos. Though, despite all this, the religious influence did not come easy. Dating back to his high school life, many questioned religion, its reason. Admittedly, he had the same apprehensions. Inner conflict was then carried over and advanced college, where much more started abandoning their spiritual beliefs. This made it more difficult for him to remain faithful as well, with one of the major reasons being his selected course, namely, Philosophy. Philosophy, as defined by the Merriam Webster Dictionary, means, “-the study of general and fundamental problems, such as those connected with reality, existence, knowledge, reason, mind, and language.” As one may perceive, what he was being taught and mastered in college was in contrast with his …show more content…
He realized that, with his wife, they multiplied each other’s gifts, brought out the best in each other. Quoting him, “As many are proud of becoming better, I am proud to have made someone else better, and to have been made better by someone else.” He feels strong and accomplished when with his wife, who he believes has made the most impact on his life. He is also proud of the feeling that he is fulfilling God’s call, and the feeling that he is indeed doing what he was meant to do. Although not what he believes to be his biggest achievement, Brian is still very much proud of having set the foundation for the XCE Yunnan and XCE Beijing Programs, which, even though he no longer participates in the trips, are excelling past his expectations. He believes that what helped him reach this far in his life would be his general openness to ideas and his desire to learn, to experience. Also, “if confronted with the opportunity of a better, more upholding profession,” he would take it, but only and only if it is what is best for his marriage.
