Biological Differences Between Racism And Discrimination

Homo Sapiens all have the same common ancestors and originated in Africa. Humans are one species split only by the social construct of race. Human Race has very little scientific roots. Africa actually has the most genetic diversity in the world. Two African tribes are more genetically diverse than a chinese and frence person (Gray Lecture). Even though race represents very little biological differences it is still a huge cultural issue. Racism is found throughout all cultures and rips huge divisions and creates inequalities in society. Racism is a Massive issue and has annexed the attention of many activists. A question surrounding racism is whether people of color can be racist or just white people. People of color can be racist based on the definition of racism, the harm segregation the term racism would cause and the fact that in some places around the world people of color are the dominant group and oppress white people.
Racism’s widely accepted definition does not mention anything that would suggest People of Color cannot be racist. Merriam Webster defines racism as,
“A belief that race as the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority at a particular race (Merriam-Webster).
Almost all the other major mainstream dictionaries share a similar definition that has nothing about People of Color in it. Not only do the major dictionaries use this definition of racism but in normal Cite as a whole this is by far the most prevalent definition used. Among People of COlor the majority still believes that everyone can be racist not just white people.
