1. Freedom and power to determine the destiny of black communities.
The panthers believed that black and oppressed people will not be free until they were able to determine their destinies in their own communities themselves, by fully controlling all the institutions which exist in their communities.
In my opinion I believe this is still relevant in our time now. Black people now are afraid to live in their own communities. Blacks see crimes and are scared to speak up. I feel we need to do more to take back our community and help stop all the killing and robbing. Form some type of block clubs or watch alerts, look out for your neighbor when they are not around. To me blacks have just given up they rather move to another state. Most blacks don’t know that there is power in numbers, everybody need to come together.
2. Full employment
The panthers believed that the federal government was responsible and obligated to give every person employment or a guaranteed income. They believe that if the American businessman will not give full employment, then technology and means of production should be taken from the businessman and placed in the community can organize and employ all of its people and give a high standard of living.
I do believe this is still relevant in this time and era. In order to get anything from the government now days you have to work or be retired, crazy, or blind. When people have a business they have the right to hire who they think is the best person for the job. The government is still not giving out jobs. There are a lot of people that have gone to school and have college degrees that are working at McDonalds. I really don’t think that must have changed
