Birthday party in Chinese family
The memorable event for me is about my grandfather's mother's 92th birthday which was in the Lantern Festival ten years ago. As 92 is an important age for everyone, my parents spent three days preparing for this big day. On the day of her birthday, we booked a Chinese dinner in a restaurant in Chengdu.

At exactly 7:30pm, all of our relatives, family members and even some friends of my parents attended this party. As far as I can remember, about 40 people wished her a happy birthday. At the party, we had a quite big birthday cake with the Chinese character " Wanshouwujiang" on it.

At the beginning of the party, we lighted the red candles and my grandfather made a speech on standing for the whole family, expressing all our gratitude to his mother for her hardworking and love on bringing up her children and grandchildren. After that, some of our relatives and friends presented so many gifts to grandmother. Later everyone joined us in wishing her a happy birthday in a birthday song around her, and we cheered each other. Then we cut and shared the birthday cake as a custom. It is said that if you share the birthday cake of an older person, you also share his or her longevity.

During this party, my grandmother was too excited to say any words only with huge happiness on her face. I remember clearly that at that time I saw the starry sky what I seldom met.

That day gave me a permanent memory. Even though my grandmother had been death for nine years, I also miss her quite a lot forever and

That was the day that my grandpa passed away. Every single part of that date is engrained in my memory. My parents had driven up to Wisconsin, and my older sister Lauren drove home for college to stay with me. It wasn’t out of the normal for my parents to quickly leave, so I didn’t think much of it. I remember going to hang out with Tatum, my best friend of the time. It was a nice day outside, so of course we were outside playing on the trampoline and doing all our weird routines like we always did. Her family, who was like a second family to me, decided to go out to eat so they brought me along. We went to La Charitas. I remember how Mrs. Teeple pulled out a funny card game for us to play, and I remember Tatum cutting out faces in her tortilla, making us all laugh. When we got back to the house we saw that my sister called, so I said bye to the Teeples and walked one minute down the road to my house. Lauren, who is one of the most emotional in the family, was left with the task of telling me that my grandpa had passed away. I had just grabbed a snack of chocolate cheerios as she started to tell me the news. I didn’t know how to react, so I ran into the basement directly to the furthest corner I could find. Lauren tried talking to me, but I wanted to be by myself. One of the hardest things I have ever done was talking to my dad on the phone after finding out. He called to tell me the plans, that he was coming home to get us, and…

My grandparents were healthy and doing amazing. My grandad went to the doctor and he came back with some news. He told us he was diagnosed with colon cancer. I was only 2, I really don’t remember anything or knew how it would affect my family. We stayed positive, but sadly he passed on my 3rd birthday. 1 year later my grandmother was soon diagnosed with lung cancer around the beginning of May. She passed at 12:03 on May 27th, my birthday. I remember them letting me go back into the brightly lit hallway and my mom was holding me. She asked the nurse if I could go back to the dimly lit room and…

My mother wanted to give me the birthday of my dreams and that is exactly what she did. She told me that for this birthday I was not going to be able to have a huge party like I had wanted, so I threw a fit. I started to yell and scream and cry until my mom calmed me down. She told me that birthdays do not have to be extravagant in order for it to be a birthday, but as long as you have your family surrounded by you be fine. When my party came I walked into my back yard and saw that all of my family was there and everything I had wanted was too, I was so overjoyed my mom couldn’t contain me. I ran up to her and gave her the biggest hug ever, she told " Happy birthday sweetie! I love you."…
