The first conflict of man found in "The Most Dangerous Game" is when man verses nature. An example provided from the story would be when Rainsford falls off the boat and then swims to the Island. When he falls into the water the speeding yacht slaps water on to his face and he gags and struggles to get to the surface. When he does reach the surface the boat is long gone and left him behind, he then starts swimming to the nearby island. Rainsford heard pistol shots but couldn't figure which animal it was, so he went into the dense…

"The Most Dangerous Game's" Ship-Trap Island has many dangerous elements. One example, is the evil dogs that live on the island. Zaroff, one of the few inhabitants of the island, has trained his dogs to hunt humans. The dogs hunt people, so they can never win Zaroff's game. Zaroff told Rainsford of a time when…

When Rainsford first gets to Zaroff’s mansion and Ivan points the gun at Rainsford, when Zaroff hunts Rainsford, and for all the other men that Zaroff had hunted on his island. The significance of conflict is that Rainsford has no other choice, other than being whipped by the brutal force of Ivan, than to be hunted by the sick minded General Zaroff. Whose love for hunting is so extreme he hunts men. Another element I will add to Cornell’s work is key, suspense. Suspense grabs viewer’s attention, and at times makes the audience predictable, tense, and even excited. Suspense will be added to “The Most Dangerous Game” starting when Rainsford goes to Zaroff’s mansion. In the story Rainsford refuses to go into Zaroff’s library, but in the motion picture he will. This scene will be terrifying and full of suspense as Rainsford is lured in and is forced to see all the severed human heads that were once Zaroff’s hunt. This key element will also happen when Rainsford is sent out to hide from Zaroff. Towards the end of the hunt, when Rainsford last trap gets set off and…

The Most Dangerous Game, by Richard Connell, is an original nonfiction story about two hunters who take themselves into the Amazon to hunt down animals. Rainsford, one of the main hunters, ends up finding himself on a mysterious island after an accident occurs. Comparing to the film, the characters throughout the scenes differentiate in many ways. Although, the short story itself is entertaining. The changes such as the shipwreck, a love interest, and character development that the director produces a much more dramatic plot, placing the audience on the edge of their seats.…

While one may look at Richard Connell's "The Most Dangerous Game" and Ernest Hemmingway's "The Short Happy Life of Francis Macomber" and pass them off as basically the same, he should be reminded of the cliché "don't judge a book by its cover." Although both are short stories, each work encompasses a number of elements that are characteristically associated with either commercial or literary fiction. By evaluating the author's use of elements of fiction, such as plot, theme, and characterization, and the literary devices diction, figurative language, and detail, one can come to the conclusion that neither story is better than the other.…

A boat on the Caribbean Sea is heading to Rio, and a sailor aboard, named Rainsford, falls over the railing into the black waters after hearing gunshots, and swims towards an island with dense jungle and the welcoming General. One example of conflict in the story is when Rainsford hears gun shots fired out in the dark night. This begins the conflict because it is when Rainsford falls out of the boat into the ocean. Zaroff celebrates, "I drink to a foeman worthy of my steel—at last" (Connell 68). General Zaroff is intrigued now that he will be hunting Rainsford, a man with equal wits and skill, in his game. When the knife slingshot set by Rainsford fails to hit the target of Zaroff in the jungle it creates suspense. This means that Rainsford's weapon did not kill his most dangerous enemy and he will have to keep fighting through this game. Richard Connell used conflict to create suspense in "The Most Dangerous Game" to win the reader's attention from the beginning, and go on a frightful journey with Rainsford through the…

After having read the stories “ The Most Dangerous Game “ and “ The Cask of Amontillado” , “ The Most Dangerous Game is my favorite of the two. No matter what happened, they both had a way of showing their evil ways, Rainsford was a devious person, and the General was trying to trick Rainsford the whole time they were playing the game. The General is my favorite character from the story. When Rainsford was hiding in the tree and saw the General he could have attacked him by jumping down the tree as a panther, he stayed where he was. The General could have killed Rainsford when he was in the tree, but instead he stared at the tree, then he smiled and walked off knowing that he was in the tree he just didn’t do anything because he had a devious…

Whether it makes them mean, distant, or cliquey, like Millicent, status and ego can turn people’s personalities and friendships upside down, for the worst. Through the sparrows, heather birds, basement, Millicent emerges from this hole and understands who she wants to be. Symbolism in “Initiation” represents the growth of Millicent's character, from unassertive, to her sorority initiation changing her into a confident, non-conformist who realizes the power of individuality.…

Staying true to self or following the crowd were the two choices that Millicent had to make in the story “initiation” by Sylvia Plath. Often times teenage girls long to be a part of a group or a club to feel a sense of acceptance. Millicent started off as a bashful girl who wanted to be a part of a sorority, and later had an epiphany and decided to reject the membership into the sorority. She declined membership into the sorority because she did not want to lose her best friend Tracy. She did not like the thought of losing her sense of individuality, and felt as if she did not need to belong to a club to relate to other human beings.…
