Robert Allen Zimmerman or more commonly known as 'Bob Dylan' was born 24th May 1941 in Duluth, Minnesota. From a young age Bob had an interest in music, at 10 years old he started writing poetry and he also taught himself how to play the piano and the guitar. He took inspiration from various artists including Little Richard, Elvis Presley and Jerry Lee Lewis. One of Dylan's goals was to perform with Little Richard and that was also his high school yearbook quote.

This album contains two iconic 1960s folk songs, 'A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall' and 'Blowin' in the Wind', this song later on became hugely successful for the folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary. Because of songs like these and others he had written such as 'Masters of War', he became known as a protest singer. Bob was starting to become noticed by other people in the industry, one of these people was Joan Baez, an already established artist and 'protest singer'. Before he went back on tour he recorded the album 'Planet Waves' with his backup band 'The Band', the album went to number one, this was Dylan's first number one album.
He released his next album in 1975 'Blood on Tracks', this was written about the separation between him and wife, Sara Noznisky. Some of the songs included in the album were 'Tangled Up in Blue', 'Simple Twist of Fate', 'Shelter From The Storm' and 'Idiot Wind'.
His next album 'Desire' came out in 1976, this album includes the songs 'Sara' and 'Hurricane', Dylan wrote this song about a boxer called Rubin 'Hurricane' Carter, who he believed was wrongfully convicted of a triple homicide in 1967 and was serving life imprisonment. Dylan among other people popularised Carter's case, this lead to a retrial in 1976, he was convicted again.
1979 he decided to become a born-again Christian. He released the album 'Slow Train Coming', which has the hit song 'Gotta Serve Somebody' which earned Dylan his first Grammy award, unfortunately his next album 'Saved' wasn't
