This is because a majority of Boeing’s business is related to the commercial sector of the aerospace industry, accounting for roughly 60% of all funding (The US Defense, 2004). With the number of US air travelers projected to increase annually over the next 20 years, Boeing has a good chance of avoiding job-losses related to government budget cuts and may be the most reliable provider of long-term employment out of the three companies. Boeing has also outsourced their product worldwide, receiving approximately 50% of funding from domestic sources and the other 50% from international (The US Defense, 2004). I ended up in a scheduling job at Boing, it was scheduling for engineering so it was somewhat related. It also allowed me to meet the people that I ended up getting my current job through. I took the job because, you know, student loans were upon me. Once I got into Boeing, it was clear I was in the right area. Essentially it took me about two years to actually obtain an engineering job.
What would you have done differently, education wise, to more easily obtain a job?
Well the master’s degree surely does not hurt. It absolutely would help you. It would help you find a job more quickly and a lot of private practices actually wouldn’t hire me because I only had a bachelors. With the way the economy took a major hit, this sort of work slowed down and there were fewer jobs. This made it so those with master’s degrees were better suited for these jobs. A lot of peers that I graduated with actually stayed in school to obtain their master’s because they couldn’t find jobs.
