The world’s greatest physicists and mathematicians took part in commanding the efforts during World War II, the project was projected to cost a heaping $20 billion due to the production of the first uranium and plutonium bombs. Albert Einstein influenced the beginning of the Manhattan Project. In collaboration with Leo Szilard, Einstein wrote a letter to President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1939, to inform him of possible German nuclear weapons research and proposing that the United States began its own research into atomic energy. The American quest for nuclear explosives was driven by the fear of Germany’s very own Adolf Hitler and the fact that he would invent and gain military advantage. This project took a little less four years, the first atomic bombs were designed and built at a site in Los Alamos, New Mexico. The Manhattan Project produces three bombs: the first bomb known as “Gadget” and was used as a test model. Due to the enormous expense and slow production rates for explosive material, no further tests were conducted. The second bomb, known as “Little Boy” was detonated over the city of Hiroshima in August 6, 1945 during World War II, and the final bomb, “Fat Man” was detonated over the city of Nagasaki three days later. Which led to Emperor Hirohito to announce his country’s surrender. Nuclear facilities were built at Oak Ridge, Tennessee and Hanford, Washington. The main assembly plant was built at Los Alamos, New Mexico. The reason it was named the Manhattan Project was to trick enemy countries into thinking any development would be taking place in Manhattan, New York. The government was taking a chance to take enemy fire or possible bombing of an innocent state. This was made to believe that there was some sort of project taking place in a location that had nothing to do with…

The U.S had atomic bombs ready and a decision had to be made; should they sent ground forces to invade Japan or should they bomb Japan. Some people though it was a good idea to bomb Japan, while others say that 200,000 innocent people were killed. World War II was a war between governments, by dropping the bomb; they put the innocent people of Japan in danger too. The two cities were of limited military value. Civilians outnumbered troops in Hiroshima five or six to one. Japanese lives were sacrificed simply for power politics between the United States and the Soviet Union (as stated in Document B). By dropping the bomb the US was hurting the citizens (people not involved in the war) more than they were the government, the people they were really fighting against. Between the two cities, there was an estimated 105,066 dead, and 94,000 injured; that’s almost 200,000 causalities total (document A).…

Before WWII, the United States strongly supported the idea of Isolationism, meaning they did not want to be involved in wars. As the time passed the United States found them turning away from neutrality by providing armed weapons to other nations. When other countries could not afford to buy products, the U.S could not afford to lose business, so they came up with a Lend-Lease Act and Cash and Carry. Both selling and lending items such as weapons to other states, (Great Britain& France). Japan was one of the nations until the United States cut them off. Due to that, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor killing 2,403 Americans and injuring 1,178 and the U.S officially entered WWII.…

In the aftermath over 60 cities were bombed by Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The bombs caused so much damage to the country that their society was will always be scarred by it. It was important for the U.S. to defend themselves but many of the people who died had no part in the war. The method the U.S. chose to use was morally wrong. In Hiroshima, one hundred forty thousand people died and in Nagasaki eighty thousand people died. Most of the people died after the bomb because of the radiation. The radiation would kill peoples white blood cells and if you have dead blood cells they can not fight off infection and then you will die. The radiation would also leave marks on your skin that would most likely never come off. The Japanese had a lot of damage done by the the atomic bombs and they did not deserve it. William Leahy thought the exact same thing “The Japanese were already defeated and ready to surrender because of the effective sea blockade and the successful bombing with conventional weapons”…

One of the most controversial issues of World War II is the debate on whether or not the United States should have used an atomic bomb against the Japanese. People who tend to oppose the use of the atomic bomb tend to ignore, or are ignorant, of the history of Japan during World War II. One factor to consider is the treatment of prisoners of war and civilians in countries that Japan had conquered. Another aspect was the “never surrender” mentality of the Japanese military in the territories they controlled during World War II. The final point is the estimated number of casualties for both sides. Due to these factors, the U.S. should have dropped the bomb on Japan to save lives on both sides.…

The U.S. bombing Japan with nukes was not justified was because of 2 reasons. One reason is because they could have easily used a weaker type of bomb to rid Hiroshima and Nagasaki of their military. They didn’t need to wipe out the entire city. Instead of millions and millions of innocent Japanese lives being lost, they could have lost only a couple hundred thousand Japanese soldiers, It would have saved many lives, and the outcome would have been almost the same. This would also save 2 billion dollars from the making of Little Boy, and Fat Man. Another reason why nuking Hiroshima and Nagasaki was wrong, is because Russia was attacking a week after the nukes. They could have just won us the war, without causing the nuclear fallout of Hiroshima…
