Bone Cancer

According to recent studies, there are less than two hundred thousand cases of bone cancer per year. There are three varieties of bone cancer which are called chondrosarcoma, Ewing’s sarcoma, and osteosarcoma. The most dangerous out of the three is Ewing’s Sarcoma, which only seventy percent out of one hundred survive after five years of the diagnosis. Chondrosarcoma is also very dangerous if it has progressed further before treatment, making it only a twenty-five percent survival rate after five years. The last, Osteosarcoma, has about a ninety percent survival rate up to five year after the diagnosis but for those who have been diagnosed early on in the stages, the survival rate is much lower, weighing in at twenty-five percent.
Bone cancer is involved with nuclear medicine often with bone scans. A nuclear medicine bone scan can advertise any infections, breaks or tumors in the bone that we cannot detect outside of the body. A nuclear bone scan can also show any progress or decline in treatment that you may have undergone to heal cancer. Whereas primary bone cancer is very rare, different types of other bone cancers are more common than it. Osteosarcoma usually occurs in people from the ages of ten to nineteen years old. Chondrosarcoma usually occurs in the older population, about forty years old, and the last, Ewing’s sarcoma, is common for children and adolescents under nineteen years of age , is more common in male, and is extremely rare in the African American population. Usually, pain is the most common symptom of bone cancer, but not all bone cancers can be distinguished be pain. If no pain persists, then look for swelling or heat near the reddened
