Bonnie was older part of her fame came from her famous poems. Including The Story of Bonnie and Clyde, and The Street Girl. In 1926 Bonnie married her highschool sweetheart, Roy Thornton. Their marriage was hectic, or in other words horrible. Bonnie refused to divorce him for who know’s what reason. Roy was sentenced to the penitentiary for five years. Bonnie decided to move on then. Bonnie met Clyde Chestnut Barrow in 1930. Their romance was interrupted when Clyde was jailed a month later. Boie wrote to clyde while he was in jail. She wrote to him begging for him to stay out of trouble up his release. Clyde Chestnut Barrow was born right outside of Telico Texas on March 24, 1909. His father was Henry Barrow. Henry moved his family to dallas in 1922. In 1926 Clyde’s first arrest occurred. Clyde had stolen an automobile. After Clyde was released from jail, he decided to take it to the next level. Over the next four years Clyde committed strings of robberies in and around Dallas. In 1930 Clyde Barrow met Bonnie Parker. Thi is when their romance was soon interrupted. Clyde had gone to jail and Bonnie had written him the letter begging for him to stay out of trouble. She couldn’t it to see her beloved Clyde. They decided to take matters into their own hands. Bonnie smuggled a pistol past the guards and into Clyde’s cell. He then used this pistol to escape. Clyde was soon recaptured a week later in Middletown Ohio after a robbery. On April 21, 1930 he was then sent to Eastham Prison Farm in Crockett. He was found guilty and was sentenced 14 years in the state penitentiary. Clyde was unable to endure the work at one of the state operated plantations. He then had another convict chop two toes from his left foot with a axe. His scheme was unnecessary though. His mom had already talked to the judge about Clyde’s release. He was released two weeks later in February 1932. After CLyde’s release he tried to do better. He made an effort to go straight. Clyde began working at a glass company until police harassment caused him to lose his job. This pushed him over the edge. He rounded up his gang, Bonnie eventually joining him, and they began side-stepping the law again. Robbing gas stations and banks as well. Clyde murdered a police officer and a store owner during his crime sprees, making him a wanted man with a fortune over his head.
Bonnie and Clyde decided to lay low for a little while.
Even though they somehow managed to always be one step ahead of the law they didn't want to be caught. They decided to stay with Clyde’s brother, Buck Barrow. They rented a small garage apartment in Joplin Missouri as a hide out. The neighbors became suspicious. Claiming it to be The Barrow Gang, another name for Clyde’s gang, the neighbors tipped off the police.
On April 13, 1933 law officers raided the highway. A shootout following afterwards. Two lawmen were killed. The gang, barely managing to escape, left behind a roll of film. From which many of the famous photographs originated.
Most of their brief criminal lives Bonnie and Clyde were on the move. They were committing one crime after the next.Still somehow managing to always stay one step ahead of the law. The gang would probably never manage to escape if it wasn’t for Clyde’s skilled driving. Although poetry doesn't help in committing crime, Bonnie helped them both become famous with her poetry.
The gang was ambushed once again in Platte City, Missouri. Buck (Clyde’s Brother) was killed. Blanche (Bucks wife) was captured and taken into custody. Bonnie and Clyde escaped once
again.
In January 1934, the two made an attack on the Eastham Prison farm in Texas. This was to free Raymond Hamilton and Henry Methvin, former accomplices of Clyde. While doing so they machine-gunned several guards and killed one. After completing this task the four of them went on yet another robbery rampage in Indiana.
After a few months Bonnie and Clyde found refuge at Methvins Family farm in Bienville Parish Louisiana. When Frank Hamer, former Texas Ranger captain, and his posse learned where the gang was, Methvin’s father betrayed Bonnie and CLyde for grace on his son. This would all lead up to the death of the famous outlaws.
On May 23, 1934 Bonnie and Clyde were driving down a backroad when they happened to see Methvin’s father standing next to his broken down truck. Little did they know, this was yet another ambush. They pulled off to help Methvin’s father. As they did the police opened fire on them and the famous couple were showered in 167 bullets.
Even though they were famous for committing crimes. They had the nation awestruck for their love for eachother. Even though they wished to be buried next to each other they were buried in different cemeteries. Bonnie and Clyde are still very well know to this day.
