Determining Red 40 Concentrations Using Absorption with Beer’s Law Introduction I like color and enjoyed learning about wavelengths and the spectrum of light, so I considered incorporating something related to that into my Internal Assessment. We also had just used concentrations in our Group 4 Project, so when I found an experiment that dealt with both of these I thought it was a great idea. This experiment is not completely original; the basic concept has been used multiple times. It uses Beer’s Law: · A is light absorbance · is “molar absorptivity with units of L mol-1 cm-1” · l is the length of the cuvette in centimeters · c is the concentration of the solution in mol L-1…

As the school year progresses, my hope as a teacher using class grouping is to bring all students to average if not above average learning. Make it capable to not have to use within-class grouping and just use whole group instruction. As…
With this knowledge, the author then decides to use her own classroom for research and breaks up her classroom at Georgetown University into small groups based on their gender and social aptitude. She discovered that when her students were able break apart from the larger arena of the classroom and instead share their ideas with small groups that they were more willing to participate in the discussion and felt better with the way they were communicating.…
To all students and teachers studying is the fundamental path to mastering a subject or lesson. But studying is no longer the simple definition of opening a book and reading with notes being taken on the side. Because of our current understanding of the human mind and the way the brain functions we have discovered that many students who would be originally dismissed as “lazy”, “unfocused” or more harshly described as “stupid” are in fact people who do not process data the traditional means. For these people using the simple and archaic form of studying does not truly benefit them, for people like myself the simple opening a book and reading it is not as helpful as watching videos or demonstrations about the subject or listening to someone explain…
* Open and honest discussion between the teacher and the learners to allow individuals to highlight what they feel is important to the group. This leads towards everyone living with group decisions and refraining from articulating their own personal reservations outside that group.…
This is done through whole class discussions, but I believe the most beneficial discussions happen during partner and small group work, which provides students the chance to meaningfully collaborate with their peers and offer their interpretations in a much more intimate and safe setting. The language arts lesson that is centered on a peer-graded group discussion obviously includes speaking, but really focuses in on critical listening. Students must understand the rubric they are presented with then mindfully listen to a peer and evaluate their participation based on the criteria in front of them. Writing is seen in all the lessons, often multiple times. Exit tickets give students the chance to summarize and boil down what they gained from the lesson while also providing me with insight into their comprehension and potential areas of confusion. Students are also asked to write multiple papers (argumentative, rationale, reflection) building on the topics discussed in class, offering them an opportunity to create meaning from and…
Approaches that include activities such as role play where the learner may be expected to watch, listen, discuss, take notes, problem solve as well as partake in practical involvement allow for the development of group interaction. As with all approaches, this method may not suit all learners as some maybe reluctant to participate. When planning to use this technique its important that clear objectives are set and that all activities are clearly explained allowing time for feedback.…
The problem with this technique is that the material that the individual is desiring to learn only sustains in one’s short term memory. To avoid this dilemma and poor study etiquette a student should distribute their study material over a certain period of days and go back or rehearse previously learned material the next day. The behavior that is desired to be decreased is the all nighters. The problem with an all nighters is that all the material that is to be learned is being forced to be learned in one night or a few hours, in which in one perspective is punishing yourself. Further leading, the student to not learn the material in good quality. To prevent this bad behavior one must use negative reinforcement. Negative reinforcement is taking away a stimulus or certain object that will most likely increase the probability of that certain behavior to occur and in this case, distributed studying. For the student to advance in distributed studying, they may have to find the root of the problem. All nighters are the usually the result of procrastination. Now the procrastination may have been resulted from either surfing the web for too long or just the thought of unavoidable failure. Usually, when a subject is difficult or even deemed as boring, a student will avoid the subject and most likely perform an all nighters. This results them to resort to utilize their smartphones, therefore procrastinating…
Irony is one of the things that keep our daily lives a lot more interesting than expected. Having the exact opposite of your expectation happen. In Langston Hughes essay “Salvation” that’s exactly what took place. Hughes went to church with the intention of believing and being “Saved” and ended up being disappointed. At the age of 12 Hughes attended church with his aunt Reed. Before going to church he was continuously told he would “see Jesus”, Hughes at the time took it literally and expected to “see Jesus” at the church revival. Hughes and Westley were the only two left on the mourners bench. Westley got tired of waiting to “see Jesus”, so he lied and was saved, leaving Hughes alone on the bench. After seeing that, Hughes lost belief and decided to go up to be saved even if he didn’t feel saved or saw Jesus. Everybody was ecstatic and “rejoicing” but all that affected Hughes and made him feel guilty for lying.…
If the only way to save your life was to blame an innocent member in your community, would you? In The Crucible, Arthur Miller expresses the acts of finding a scapegoat through John Proctor and Reverend Hale juxtaposed to Abigail, the girls and some of the accused. Many of the accused “witches” admit to being a witch and save their own lives by offering the names of other witches in the community. If the accused claim they are not witches, they will be hanged for witchcraft, but if they confess and desire God’s forgiveness, their lives will be spared. “HALE: You have confessed yourself to witchcraft, and that speaks a wish to come to Heaven’s side. And we will bless you Tituba.” (Page 43).…

One effective way to help the students is through literature. Usually these students are English learners. Because of that, this group has greater difficulties integrating and socializing with other peers in the classroom. “Literature can help them “meet these new people” in their classroom, learn the expectations of their classmates and their teacher, and generally learn to adapt to their new culture” (Akrofi 2008).…
It is clear from the table that those learners that prefer question and answer also prefer presentations, debates and group discussions. It is important for me as a teacher to ensure that I am supporting all learners by using teaching and learning methods that they are comfortable with, to ensure that maximum learning potential is reached, as well as balancing this with encouraging learners to learn within a teaching and learning method that they do not prefer so that they have the opportunity to acquire new material in a variety of contexts (Gravells and Simpson,…
