Book Report On Bronx Masquerade
Bronx Masquerade is the book Success Academy’s 8th grade curriculum needs. In our curriculum, we read many stories about discrimination against different groups. But we don’t always hear narratives of life during these times, rarely ever from teens.

In Bronx Masquerade, Mr. Ward’s high school class is assigned to write an essay. Wesley Boone prefers to write a poem instead. Eventually, each of the 18 students follow and share poems that express the struggles they face.

As I read through this book, I began to understand how I myself could transform a single writing assignment into something much bigger, something much more important. I felt the influence right away. I began to understand the significance of poetry to a greater degree. I

Bronx Masquerade is about problems young teenagers have to face while finding themselves. In this book people change the way they look, act, and even think to feel like they fit in. These teenagers mimic people they look up to, or think "cool" because of their fear of being themselves. During these adolescent years many kids have low self-confidence and/or self-esteem, so they give up easily and believe others are better than them. This book takes a turn when the teacher introduces poetry to the class. The kids learn how to express their feelings through many different ways, one being poetry. When someone has self-confidence they have a stronger belief in themselves and in what their trying to achieve in life. Nikki Grimes writes this novel to show how hard people try to please everyone but themselves, just to fit in, until they realize they're most important in life.…

Even though I did not in fact write half a novel in a month, several things the author said still are a large part of my everyday writing experience. An exercise he suggested the reader do was to sit down with some background music (I chose Sun Dance: Summer Solstice), and write for fifteen minutes about something always wanted/wished for in our own life. What I did write is surprisingly personal to me, but I will say that even now reading it will still shock me; I had no clue that I had the feelings that I did bottled up inside. I remember the only conscious thought I had during the entire writing burst was “hmm… I guess I kinda would like…” Then I finished writing and my soul was peeking at me between the scrawls on the scrap paper I had decided to use for this useless looking…

“Introduction to Poetry,” a poem written by Billy Collins, exemplifies the actual purpose for reading poetry. Collins strictly makes it clear to the reader that poems not always contain a deeper meaning, but rather the reader should take pleasure in reading the poem. The speaker, a poet, a teacher, and someone, who enjoys reading poetry, is talking directly to another teacher about how students should find pleasure in reading poetry, rather than stressing about analyzing the poem and finding the deeper meaning. The speaker also indirectly informs the reader that sometimes poetry should be read for pleasure and enjoyment. As a reader, we can very easily assimilate that the purpose of this poem is not that all poems require us to search and search…

Throughout this course I have grown tremendously as both a person and a writer. The knowledge I gained because of Dr. A's Composition 123 class is invaluable to me. Every other English class I have taken throughout my life has only hindered and halted my love of reading and writing, but this course re-ignited passions I thought had long burned out. Austin Kleon's Steal Like an Artist reshaped my perceptions, and Pat Conroy's My Reading Life changed my writing.…

Another one of our new teachers in the English department is Adam Bergstein. Bergstein received his Masters degree in Stony Brook University in Long Island. He went from running a restaurant to a more “legitimate career” as a teacher. Bergstein’s techniques to inspire students are “trying to show them how literature relates to their own life or events that occur in their life.” New methods of teaching will increase a student’s attention rate in learning and succeeding.…

As she read I read along with her my own book in hand. I read the book smiling excitedly as pictures begin to form in my mind from what I was reading. We would do this almost every day until I began to read on my own with little help needed, and before I knew it, I was done with the book and wanting to read another. The only problem was, I wanted a different story. One that I couldn’t seem to find. It was then that I decided to write my own book. A story never heard before. One that I could decide the ending. When I started it was hell. I couldn’t think of the right words, and couldn’t spell. My books were a mix of badly written stories, but as I was determined to do what I loved which was writing. So went on, forcing myself to research how something is spelled, or what it really means. With time not only did my stories begin to improve, but so did my grades in the class. I was getting A’s on my vocabulary quiz and even begin to put some of my vocab words into my stories. I remember the smile on my mom’s face as she read my first story. So many years of my struggling seemed to all be worth it just to see the smile that appeared on her face from…

It’s a fair bit to remember. One of the most effective ways to improve our own writing skill is to spend some time reading the works of others. Reading actually enables us to expand and broaden our knowledge. The more knowledge we have, the betterequipped we are to tackle any challenge we'll face. The more we read, the more words we gain exposure to and surely they'll walk their way into our vocabulary. Reading my classmates' essays is one vital way to learn, gain or acquire my writing proficiency. It emphasizes an assortment of experiences, their backgrounds, history and nuances as well as the various sub-plots that weave their way through every story. I had learned new techniques in writing that were not quite familiar to me. I had developed a better reading process, to better understand what was written and what was being told. By this activity, it had helped me magnify what were stored in my vocabulary. This Summer Vacation Essay Activity taught me to become a better reader and coached me on how to get better readers. This task goes hand-in-hand with the expansion of my terminologies and word-stock. Exposure to these essays has noted an effect on my own writing style, as observing the cadence, fluidity and writing preferences of my other classmates. It made me realize that in order to become an excellent writer, one must practice the ability of being a diligent reader. It’s a fair bit to remember.…

This week, I have read seven articles, but only Eudora Welty’s ‘One Writer’s Beginnings” left a deep impression on me because it made me recall my own reading experience and education process when I just saw the title of this article. I could not say I am a writer, but I think I am a totally reading lover. After reading the “One Writer’s Beginnings”, I think there is a little bit similar between Eudora Welty’s childhood and mine. However, perhaps I did not have the gift of writing, or I did not work hard enough. In another word, I do not have any advantages on writing. Next, I would like to talk about my reading experience, which include three parts, reading before go to school, reading during school time, self-reading experience. Recall my reading experience over the years, book told me stories, taught me knowledge, and always around me, so I have to say that reading is a very enjoyable thing.…
