Book Review: The Big Time By Tim Green
For my realistic fiction book talk I read the book The Big Time by Tim Green, and I chose this book because of Previous books I read by the same author that I liked. The main setting of the book is Atlanta, Georgia, and it switches between many places in the town. Troy White, the main character, is an amazing football player with a very special talent. Troy can predict the plays that teams will run before it actually happens. Troy works for the Atlanta Falcons as a “Football Genius”. The problem Troy faces is that his father abandoned him and his mother, but now he is coming back. Troy’s father is a lawyer who works for a lot of big-name people, and seems very rich. Troy also needs either an agent or lawyer as well to get him a contract in the NFL. When Troy’s father starts coming back, Troy wants to see and talk to him, as well as have …show more content…
In the scene, Troy is at his Seth’s house with his football team and their parents to celebrate winning the football state championship. That is when Troy’s father comes, in an orange porsche, as Troy and his mom are getting ready to leave the party. His father claims that he wants to see Troy, and that he did not know Troy existed, until he saw him on TV with Larry King. Troy’s mom makes him leave, though, upsetting Troy. A craft move used in this scene is an expanded moment. “Can I help you’ Seth asked, the cords in his muscular neck now dancing in the porch light. Troy’s father stood an inch or two over six feet - as tall as Set - with a handsome face worn from weather and worry. He laughed a soft, friendly laugh, and he stuck out a big hand with a slim gold watch on his wrist.” This moment was important for the author to make longer because it set the whole book on course. It caused Troy to run away that night, and nights after, to see his father, and talk to him. If this never happened, Troy would have never

The book, Last Man Out by Mike Lupica, is a very unique book and I would recommend it to anyone who loves sports, especially football, to read it. The setting of this book is in present-day Boston. The main character is Tommy Gallagher, a 12 year-old boy who loves to play football. The rising action of this book would be that Tommy’s father died because of a fire at a house that he was called to. Because of this Tommy’s sister, Emily, stopped playing the sport she was so good at. Tommy tried to persuade her to keep playing. Tommy kept playing football and kept making…

He was “looking for a guy with strong values and a strong personality”. Troy keeps distance between him and his family. Cory: "Tell Mama I'll be back for my things. "Troy: "They'll be on the other side of that fence."(p.89) The fence is a barrier between him and his son. I think this doesn’t show good character, he should just get along with his son. He should know that Cory is not going to be a perfect child. This doesn’t relate to baseball all that much, but I do think it would affect him in a negative way. Troy takes a huge football opportunity away from Cory. I don’t think that is the right thing to do. He should let his son do the sports that he wants and let him be happy. In the book, Cory asks Troy why he doesn't like him. Troy get’s really angry, saying that “ It’s my job. It’s my responsibility! Not ‘cause I like you!(p.38). think it shows a negative side of…

Book Review: Friday Night Lights takes place in 1998 when H.G. Bissinger a journalist decided to follow a football team in Texas. He finally chose Permian High which has a population of over 90,000 people. H.G. Bissinger soon finds out that football for the Panthers wasn’t ordinary. Football was life for the players, and reasonably so, they had won the past five state championships in a row. In my mind Friday Night Lights focuses on three major keys. It shows the dreams of the players, they pressure the athletes had with the community and their family, and also the commitment from the school. In the book, you notice how some dreams had been crushed, the player that shows it the most it Booby Miles, a running back who was set to have an outstanding…

Each individual creates their own choices to stumble upon their experience which may either trigger awful consequences or opportunities on their new path in life and into the world. J.C. Burke’s “The Story of Tom Brennan”, employs the story of the protagonist, Tom Brennan, and his family as they embark upon new journeys and decisions to restart their new lives in Coghill. Their horrific past explains the reason of their move from Mumbilli to their grandmother’s house. The reputation of the Brennan’s was once great and happiness filled their lives, however all is lost when Daniel, Luke and Nicole had a car accident. Football was once Tom’s only favourite sport. Unfortunately, in his new world, it meant nothing. It is just a game to fill in the time. He has lost his edge for he feels uncomfortable “For me, playing footy would never be the same. Here in Coghill, it would just be something to fill in the time – the endless, endless time”.…

His actions do not change throughout the course of the play. He remains controlling and bitter. He was being selfish when he went to Cory’s school and told his coach he can’t play football no more just because he didn’t have a chance when he was playing baseball. There are many elements that reveal changes in Troy, such as, him and Bono use to be so close. Bono use to come to Troy’s house and see him every day until the day they really sat down and talked about Troy’s affair with Alberta. Bono loved Rose and Troy and he didn’t want Rose to get hurt by Troy’s actions. I know what Rose means to you Troy; I’m just trying to say I don’t want to see you mess up (Fences 1065). He reminded Troy of how much he loved his wife and basically telling him he need to end the affair with Alberta before Troy breaks up their…

The narrative of Silver Linings Playbook is formed in the heart of Philadelphia around a middle class family at it’s breaking point. Pat’s, the protagonist, family has very much shaped his current situation; he has clinical bipolar disorder and struggles with stress-induced manic outbursts. After Pat’s release from a mandated rehabilitation center, he handles the next recuperating stage of his life in a similar way as a quarterback looking to make the next big play on the field; watching for possible blitzes and passes, anything to get the ball into the end zone, or in Pat’s case, to get in position for his life to get back on track, and preferably with his estranged wife, Nikki. The football metaphor does not stop there and is continually enforced by Pat Sr., Pat’s OCD and stress-induced manic outburst ridden father.…

In Act I scene IV, Troy talks about his father and how he grew up as a little boy. As I read this scene in the play, I really didn’t take into consideration any specific emotion troy would be feeling and showing while explaining his past. In the movie, he seemed very emotional and I would say a little choked up in talking about his father and his past. He was also drunk in the movie while talking about it so that added a little more to the scene as well as he talked and kept drinking his alcohol. I also enjoyed watching the movie because I could take what I read on paper and watch pretty much the same play on the screen. I am into seeing and watching things more than I am into reading. I also liked how the dialogue was really similar in the movie to the play but it flowed better because the actors did a good job with the language and how it would sound from that time period. I also loved the visual representation of the baseball theme with the bat leaning on the tree and the ball on the rope hung to the tree in the backyard. Baseball is an important theme throughout the book and the movie illustrated that to…
