Beyond the 21st Century”
Booker T. Washington was an influential educator and African-American public figure throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries among both Blacks and Whites. Booker T. Washington is known for more than founding and becoming the first president of the Black college, Tuskegee University, in 1801. Booker T. Washington single-handedly contrived a generation of African-Americans who were effectuate, capable, and intelligent. The legacy he created will always be a remembered and be a milestone in history. To continue a legacy such as his would be a honor, although it will be hard to compare, I can only await the opportunity to continue and create a legacy of my own.
In the same ways as Booker T. Washington, I aspire to continue and mold a legacy through a strong educational background, compassion for other, and courage.
To start off I intend to build a legacy at Tuskegee University and in my life by having a good head on my shoulders and staying focus. Booker T. Washington worked hard as he was growing up. He chose to walk miles to and from school and work each and every day just to make a life meaningful for himself. He knew that if hard work was putting in, than he would have a satisfying outcome eventually. In the same way, I know that the years I will spend pursuing higher education will pay off in the future and get help me reach my goals and dreams. I will be determined and will refuse to give up when it seems as though I should, because I was taught that quitters never prosper.
With this mindset, I will be sure to have a glorious outcome. All I have to do is simply think of all the hardships my forefathers went through in order to get me the equality that I am able to experience to this day. So if they were able to get through brutal punishments and racism, I think I’ll be able to get through the challenges of classes such as calculus. I don’t know how else to thank Booker T. Washington and the others that put in all their work but to not disrespect the legacy that they want me to continue. So I will continue to put my best foot forth and keep my head high and make my ancestors proud, this is how I will continue the legacy of Booker T. Washington.
