Compare And Contrast Booker T. Washington And W. E. B. Dubois

Many great leaders came from the fight for African-Americans civil rights. Not all these leaders would agree with each other, but all of them had a common ground and that was to fight the oppression that blacks have had for many years. Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. Du Bois were both civil rights leaders, however they had many different views they also had many similarities. Who were these leaders and what made them different but similar in many ways? Booker T. Washington was born in Hales Ford, Virginia in 1856. Washington was born into slavery, his mom was a cook for a plantation owner and his father was an unknown white man. Washington worked his way through school. Washington graduated from Hampton Normal Agricultural Institute, in Virginia in 1875. He went become a teacher after graduation. In 1881 he would help found the Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute. The school was for blacks, and Washington would travel to promote the school, however he would reassure the whites that the school would not cause any issues against them. Washington was brought up a slave and worked hard to get his education, he believed that if blacks were to not fight the white man, that the white man would see how hard blacks worked and would agree to let blacks live their lives freely. Du Bois grew up going to school with whites, he had white friends, and was taught by white teachers, However Du Bois did not agree with Washington, he believed that blacks should not sit and please the white man, they need to have the same education as whites and the same rights as whites, and they were to keep quiet to achieve this right.
