Imagine thousands of colorful, sweet smelling flowers and the sound of insects and animals along with the soothing noise of a stream. This place is called Brazil. Brazil has all of these things and more including busy cities and huge forests. Let me tell you more about this wonderful place.

One place is well known… the Amazon Rain Forest! The Atlantic ocean is located on the coast of Brazil. Central and Southern Brazil has fertile farmland and lush grazing areas, lucky cows! The major rivers include the Amazon, the Sao Francisco, Paraná, and the Tocantins river. Brazil also has a few major mountain ranges called the Serra do Mar and Serra do Espinhaço. There are many animals and plants there. Actually, there are 100,000 species of insects, 1,500 types of fish, and 1,600 different bird species. A few are good and most are bad. We are causing deforestation and pollution. Because of this act, we are causing animals to lose their homes. On the better side, they are a huge agricultural country. Some important crops they grow are bananas, citrus fruits, cocoa, coffee, corn, cotton, sugarcane, soybeans, rice and tobacco. They have very hot weather in Brazil which can be from 22 - 26° Celsius, which is 72 - 79° Fahrenheit, although the hottest parts can reach up to 38° Celsius (100° Fahrenheit). While we have four seasons, Brazil only has two main seasons, the dry and the rainy seasons. In the rainy seasons, showers come unexpectedly. One time, torrential downpours caused mudslides and flooding that killed over six hundred people in one day! Since poverty is a big concern there, weather impacts the poor the most.
