Firstly, Doctor Brian Weiss had examined Catherie’s previously stated fears and had suggested the practicing of hypnosis. Weiss supports hypnosis when stating, “I had hypnotized hundreds of patients and had found it helpful in reducing anxiety, eliminating phobias…” (Wess24). Catherine initially was understandably reluctant and hesitant to begin this process. Although, the psychodynamic approach of therapy did not relieve Catherine of her symptoms, the fact that they explored her past in an attempt to heal Catherin is what makes this psychological approach most relevant to the book. This approach mostly is revolved around looking to the past for reasons why a patient may be experiencing the troubling symptoms that they are, which is why Dr. Weiss asked Catherine about her earliest childhood memories in one of their earlier sessions.
