Brief Summary Of Grey Wolf's Mission

Grey Wolf was just six summer the year the missionary came from the mission school by the fort to their camp and was talking to his Father Grey Eagle to get Gray Eagle to allow Grey Wolf to go to the white man's school. The missionary wanted Grey Wolf to learn to read and write the white man's language so he could live in the white man's world when he was grown. The Missionary told Grey Eagle that should every thing keep going like it seamed to be that in another twenty years when gray wolf was grown ether there would not be any Indians or they would be living together with the white man as one people. After the missionary left Father called Grey wolf to the log by the teepee entry way for a talk. Grey Eagle told Grey Wolf about what the missionary wanted Grey Wolf to do about going to school at the mission school by the fort. The mission was located at the fork of the river just west of their village. Grey Wolf wanted to know could he stay at home in the Indian village while he went to school? Or would he have to live at the mission like so many of the other boys did?
When the camp was moved away from the fort as it was some of the time during the year he would have to stay at the school or not go for he could not ride alone that far. Grey Eagle thought this would make it hard for Grey Wolf to learn form the school but would give him more time to learn to be an Indian. Grey Eagle wanted Grey Wolf too be an Indian first of all and to know the white man's ways second. Gray Eagle told Gray wolf that he did believe like the Missionary in one thing. Gray Eagle believed that if the Indian were to survived then he would have to learn to live with the white man.
