Khaled Hosseini is the author of the powerful book called the “Kite Runner”, story is based on young Afghan boy named Amir. The story is based a lot by, how your past can affect your future. Amir is consider coward by what he has done in his past, what made him have this title “coward”. He watched his best friend the person he grew up with, he watched him get raped by the town bully. Imagine he kept living his life with guilt, sorrow and complete angry towards himself. He lost his friend more like a brother then anything they practically lived together, shared the same breast when they were infants. So what makes you be like a coward and able to live with yourself. Hassan the servant’s son, Hassan father is named Ali. Ali was the servant of Amir Father Baba, Baba is great man in all of Kabul he has honour, integrity, and very strong. Amir and Hassan are best friends they were raised together like brothers, they played game in Kabul that all the children played it was called “Kite Fighting” the objective of the game is to cut your opponents kite down. Once that is done a kite runner is sent to retrieve the kite. Hassan is probably the greatest kite runner in Kabul. In the winter of 1975 held the big kite running tournament. The boys were very excited, but Amir wanted this more then anything so he can get the affection from his father Baba. Baba never showed Amir loved because when Amir was born his mother died when delivering Amir. So Amir thinks Baba doesn’t love of him because he was the reason of his wife’s death. If he wins this tournament that it might be the key to Baba’s heart. After dozens and dozens kites cut down, it was Amir who cut the last kit down. Everyone was cheering especially Baba, since Hassan is the best kite runner so Amir asked him to retrieve the kite for him. Hassan said “for you thousand times over”. Couple hours later Amir couldn’t find Hassan, until an old merchant told Amir that Hassan was being chased by a group of boys. Amir followed the direction the merchant told him to follow, he found Hassan but he found 3 boys surrounding Hassan. Amir just watched his best friend get beat up until the worse had came the main boy Assef unbuckle his pants stripped Hassan pants, and brutally raped Hassan. Amir watched then when he had an enough he didn’t help Hassan he ran away and became a coward. He left his best friend behind to be raped how can he live with this guilt what does he do? Just move on, no his he becomes selfish and become horrible person. Guilt that’s what Amir felt after the rape, every time he sees Hassan he just could not look at him the way he used too.
Also Amir can’t forgive himself in what he has done, by just watching Hassan being raped. One day Amir went to go looking for Hassan, he was sitting beside a pomegranate tree. So Amir saw him and he threw pomegranate at Hassan, Amir ask Hassan to fight back to give Amir what he deserves a beating by Hassan. The thing is Hassan will never hurt Amir instead he smashed pomegranate on his own face. Amir got madder and he thought the best way to get rid of the guilt is by getting rid of Hassan and Ali. Amir made a plan to get rid of them; he planned to frame Hassan of being a thief. He planted his watch and some money under the mattress of Hassan’s bed. Amir told Baba that Hassan stole his stuff, and then Baba asked Hassan if he stole them. Hassan knew it was Amir who framed him yet he admitted to crime he hasn’t commit. Baba forgave Hassan, but Ali want to leave he knew that him and Hassan could live there anymore. Baba refused him leaving but since Ali quit he doesn’t have to listen to Baba, after all Hassan and Ali left the house what Amir hoped to do. This didn’t solve the problem just made it even worse but how you can you redeem your self and call your self good in the end of the
day? Redemption can it always be done?
Can Amir be able to be good again? Amir is very smart he knows what it takes to become good again. The Russians came invading Afghanistan which caused Amir and Baba moving to United States. While there Baba was diagnosed with lung cancer, before Baba past Amir asked Baba to ask the father of beautiful girl he met in America named Soraya she’s Afghan as well. Both Amir and Soraya agreed on a quick marriage ceremony so Baba can witness it before he leaves the world. After Baba passing Amir received a call from an old friend of Baba a man named Rahim Khan. He told Amir “there is a way to be good again”. Amir thought of his past and what he has done to Hassan. So Rahim asked Amir to come to Pakistan and ask him for favour to do. Amir was hesitant but finally argeed to see Rahim Khan. When Amir arrived he went straight to see Rahim Khan, the favour that Rahim asked Amir was a big one. At this time the Taliban was starting a war and their base was in Afghanistan where Amir had to go. Amir said it was too much he has wife and she is expecting him to come back. The reason is Rahim asked to go save Hassan son Sohrab, Hassan has been killed by the Taliban and his son is in the orphanage in Kabul. Amir understood and he knew he was the only person who could do it. When Amir finally reached the orphanage in Kabul Sohrab was sold to the Taliban, Amir had to go deeper in Taliban territory. He found the location where Sohrab is keeping captive, when Amir
was in the house the leader told Amir to take of his disguise. The leader knew who Amir was then Amir finally realize who he was it was Assef! Assef called in the little boy and it was Sohrab, Assef said to Amir he can have Sohrab back but he will have to fight to Assef to leave. Amir never fought before so in the end he got the biggest beating, Amir thought to himself he deserved this beating something he wanted for a long time. Sohrab picked up a sling-shot and shot a rock in Assef’s eye which gave time for Amir and Sohrab escape. Amir did something very heroic to get the forgiveness from best friend by saving his child. Redemption never easy to do but, how much are you willing to be good again. Amir past haunted him for the most of his life, he has done so many bad things that many people wont forgive him for. Amir has done a great thing that many great people would not have done. After being a coward, selfish, and being jealous he found the true goodness in himself. Amir became like his father strong and helping others. One day Amir, Soraya, and Sohrab went to a park and see the kites flying. Amir told a story to Sohrab about how his father was the best kite runner of all of Kabul. Amir showed Sohrab how to play kite fighting and showed him how to cut down a kite. After Amir cut one down he gave the string to Sorhab and told Sorhab that he will get the kite for him He finally yelled out “For you thousand times over”.
