When Katie arrives in a small North Carolina town of Southport, she finds herself out of the ordinary, trying to establish a new life. She gets a job at Ivan’s, a local seafood restaurant in town, and buys a small cottage on an old, gravel road. However, her sudden arrival finds some people raising questions about her past. She finds herself avoiding personal relationships with people, until a series of events draws her into two reluctant relationships: one with her plainspoken neighbor, Jo; and another with Alex Weasley, a widowed husband and a store owner with two young children. As time goes on, Katie seems to be more involved in the close-knit community, and begins to let down her guard. She also becomes increasingly attached to Alex and his family, as she begins to feel part of his family. Safe Haven has been the best one yet. Nicholas Sparks writes in a way so that readers are on the edge of their seat. In this book specifically, he switches back and forth between scenes, which makes the reader captivated and want to keep reading. All of his books are this way. It could be specifically he love stories, or the events in the books that have nothing to do with love. What I really liked about this book, was that you didn’t have to be in love with love to read it. Safe Haven isn’t just a love story. It is a woman seeking an adventure to get away from her horrible life across the country. It is a man trying to find the woman he once loved, to bring her back to her terrible life her created for her. Safe Haven isn’t just a love story, and that is why many people don’t have any interest in reading it. I also liked that the book is somewhat of an easy read. It also had some religious meaning in the book. I liked how this was incorporated, but other people may not feel comfortable reading about
