Overall, I found this film very surprising. I never realized how many Native American achievements that have been overlooked in today’s society. Native Americans have done so much to affect the formation of today’s country that it is astonishing. They have made so many contributions that I had never realized prior to this film. I thought that some of the most important contributions were irrigation techniques and medical procedures. Religion also played a vital role in shaping America today. Native Americans literally were involved in the development of nearly all aspects of America including sports and food. This film is an important one because it shines light on the long forgotten Native Americans. They made contributions in architecture, fishing, schools, industry materials, and government to name a few. I enjoyed the film because it is a celebration of Native Americans cultural contributions. I never realized how much has been overlooked. The film is also effective in disproving countless stereotypes that depict the typical Native American as some sort of savage warrior who is illiterate and misinformed. This could not be more far from the truth and must be corrected. Most of these stereotypes have been shaped by Hollywood television. It’s important to eliminate these stereotypes of Native Americans. Today, I believe that when most people think of an Indian they think of a crazy half naked man screaming through the forest with bows and arrows. This is contrary to the truth that many Indian societies were incredibly civilized and organized. This occurred in many different ways many of which have been incorporated into American life today. In the end, this film was very effective in shining light upon the issue. I think it’s great that this video has become so widespread and I hope that this trend will continue. That way, more people can understand the issue at hand. I cannot believe that some individuals can be so naïve and that…
As we know, Michael Moore is a liberal film producer, and sometimes subjective, who criticizes the problems that affect the United States of America. His documentary Capitalism: A love story is not the exception. This is an informative documentary that shows us the reality of this economic system, Capitalism. It shows in a very clear, realistic, and even sarcastic way the consequences that affected and still affecting in a really bad way the US of America, and the price that Americans have to pay for being a Capitalist country.…
Do you think about the foods you eat before you consume them? Do you look at the nutrition facts to see if this food will actually help your body or damage it? Most people don’t. However, Joe Cross, the main focus and director of “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead,” which follows him through his 60-day journey of weight loss, is extremely health-conscious. Joe suffers from an autoimmune disease, causing his to develop itchy rashes all over his body, due to his unhealthy food choices prior to his weight loss.…
Looking at this documentary, I believe the audience will be interested in it just like me. I think that because the documentary has so much personal experience put into it, it will keep the audience involved. Everyone loves…
What stood out to me the most in this documentary were the vast differences between the people we were introduced to. Even though all of them shared the common denominator of crystal meth abuse, their original approach to the drug and reasoning behind their addictions told very unique and heart wrenching stories. I believe that we, as a society, put a certain label on what kind of person you have to be if you are a drug abuser, a set of pre-requisites if you will. A drug user is supposedly a bad person, a low-life, a certain race or color, etc. However, this documentary really shows you how the stressors of life combined with an inability to cope can make even the most good-hearted of people fall victim to addiction, especially in a city overrun by such a cheap and easily accessible drug that is so capable of making you feel numb to…
The movie was very powerful just to learn about hate crime and how it attracted a lot of attention from media as well as public all over the world due to his tragic death. Matthew was the type of person that was very approachable and always put his family and friends first. Even though the death of Matthew Shepard was undeserved I definitely think that some good has come out of it because it made people realize how much violence and hatred there in the world and what it can turn into. This tragedy helped the nation wake up to the fact that hate and discrimination still lives in our communities, schools and families. Mr. Dennis Shepard gave speech in tribute to his son Matthew brought tears in my eyes. I was able to connect and engage to that moment. That moment touched me so much that I couldn’t stop crying.…
In my opinion, I though the film was powerful and overwhelming at times. As, the public figures and political activists gave a lot of information. Analyzing the film, you see how America’s complex prison system affects people of color. It is shocking. Because despite living in a country that gives liberty to all…
"Fahrenheit 9/11" is a chilling documentary made by Michael Moore that gives us a glimpse of what went on behind the World Trade Center attacks. This documentary is very well made, it sets the right tone for each scene and Moore is good at making his point. For example, in the opening scene, Condoleezza and other cabinet members are shown primping prior to being on TV. This shows the fact that they are more concerned about their exterior image and act, not necessarily concerned with doing the right thing. When Moore first portrays the attacks, he does not show the planes hitting the towers like every news channel. Moore, however, shows the screen completely black - proving that the sounds are all we need to distinguish that tragic day. In this documentary, Bush is linked to the Bin Laden family and companies that have done well since the World Trade Center attacks. Moore poses a lot of rhetorical questions throughout the documentary to make us think further.…
The idea of a documentary being an artistic or even personalised expression of a director is long gone, or so it seems in recent times. In Michael Moore’s latest documentary, Bowling for Columbine, he attempts to get across to viewers his, and essentially only his point of view, on the topic of gun laws. Although what Moore is trying to say is not necessarily wrong, he is at the same time not taking into account the other side of the argument either; all he is trying to do, essentially is hypnotise viewers into thinking his way of thinking is the only way of thinking. In his documentary, it seems that all other arguments are simply invalid.…
To know that he was capable of moving and getting through all the setbacks that arise makes me feel like I’m capable of enduring any challenges in life. For him to constantly get rejected even by his family shows how strong of an individual he is. It seem like he went through everything that you could go through to create a successful movement from the strikes to the grape boycott to the fast that he endured for 25 days. For someone with the health that he already have last 25 days without food really shows what someone is capable of doing when there mind is set on the goal. The film overall taught me a lot about the Mexican culture and the things that they went through throughout their history in California. I now have a different perspective on farm workers and what it takes to be able survive such horrific circumstances. The presentation made me feel as if I don’t know as much as I should know about history for every race and class throughout our history. This occurred not that long ago and is still an issue in the United States today. We see numerous people working for starvation wages that cannot improve the circumstance that their almost stuck in. It inspired make a change within the area that live and make sure everyone has their rights to the basic necessities of life. It also offended me that we as a nation could treat a group…
Fat,Sick and nearly dead affected me as a person because it makes me think about eating habits. I feel like Joe and Phill have a huge impact on people with obesity. They changed their ways in eating this effect me by showing me how eating healthy can and will convert you into a better person internally and externally. It’s important to be healthy because it gives you a better chance to live longer ,watching your family grow, helps financially throughout someone’s life. There would be no worries in life about health issues. If Joe and Phill can do it so can anyone else out there looking for a change.…
First, I want to say that I loved the first documentary about George Washington and the rest of the presidents from the Revolutionary Generation. Despite being the first President of the United States and not knowing exactly what he should do, George Washington demonstrated amazing leadership skills in his two terms. The fact that G. Washington never got the chance to serve on Washington was quite ironic to me. Besides that, I loved to learn about how Jefferson embraced the simple things in life (like wearing slippers at home, even when he had guests), but I was also shocked to learn about the rumors of his affair with Sally Hemings, that’s something I’d never expect from an important figure like him, but we’ll never know if this was true or not. Finally, here is a fun fact I liked from the documentary: Back then eating ice cream was a privilege, and Dolly Madison’s (James Madison’s wife) favorite ice cream flavor was oyster…oyster! What a weird taste but hey, to each his own!…
I thought the film was very thought-provoking and had strong concepts. Whoever named the movie 13th deserves a raise because that is the best title ever imagined. During the movie they follow the timeline of events in history starting in the slave era. They mention how white people intentionally used their rhetoric in literature to turn communities against black people. Whites made them out to look like rapists and a threat to white women. The film Birth of a Nation strengthened this ideology by making the blacks look like cannibals and mongrels. The documentary went on to talk about Jim Crow laws and the KKK. One quote that really stuck out to me was by the beloved MLK Jr, “justice too long delayed is justice denied.” I believe this really sums up the entire movement and is even still apparent today.…
According to this documentary, Michael Moore examines a range of social issues with different countries and trying to come up with a solution to deal with these issues.…
There were a lot of interesting viewpoints throughout this video. I learned a lot of new information after watching this movie that makes me think differently about childbirth. For example, I never really thought it could be an option to have a cesarean section, I always just thought that it was only used when necessary. There are some viewpoints mentioned that I somewhat agreed with and then there were also viewpoints that I strongly disagreed with.…
