She also made sure to spend enough time with the children separately to continue building memories. One of the biggest critical moments during the movie was when Jackie told the children that she was sick. Both Isabel and Ben did not understand the condition of her health but both assumed she was dying. Anna takes it the hardest because her mother never mentioned it to her beforehand, considering how close she praised were. During this scene, Ana yells at her brother and screams out, “She’s dying, Isabel is your new mommy now.” This impacted the children significantly.
After this altercation, the whole family changed instantly. The adults began to understand how crucial these days are to the children. Jackie and Isabel began spending time with one another with the children. Surprisingly enough, this seemed to elevate the tension between the women. Jackie began to understand that Isabel will play a stronger role in the children’s life, and wanted to be an example for Isabel in the process. This causes the children to respect Isabel and build a stronger relationship with her.
