Describe the constraints and limitations under which marketers operate, making use of examples to explain your point.
Grading Tip: Try to find examples where these laws have been contravened (broken to any degree). Useful websites are those belonging to Trading Standards and the Advertising Standards Authority.
Breakdown of task:
With this task, you need to research different Laws and Acts that affect a business. You may have covered these laws in another unit or another course so please use this research again if so.
You need to pick a business and apply a range of factors to that business.
You can present your work in a word document/leaflet or appropriate business format.
Remember: Each law needs to be described in your own words and then applied to a business that you have chosen. The way you describe it and your business example makes your work unique so please ensure that it is not just copied from the book or cut and paste from the web!
You need to consider the following acts/laws and how a business deals with each act/law.
Try to find examples of where these laws have been broken by businesses.

3. Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008
4. Consumer Credit Acts 1974 and 2006
5. Consumer Protection Regulations 2000
6. Data Protection Act 1998
Voluntary Codes of Advertising practise
You need to find out about what rules businesses need to follow in order to comply with industry standards. Research the Advertising Standards authority www.asa.org.uk and develop a set of detailed guidelines on how your chosen business follows their rules.
Ensure you explain the importance of language in relation to advertising.
Consumerism
Explain how;
1. The media plays a role in ensuring consumers have some sort of power.
2. The ‘Office of Fair Trading’ plays a role in ensuring consumers have some sort of power.
