“Bullies Behind Bars”
“Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that
matter.”- Martin Luther King Jr. There are so many things that matter to me that
I feel I should speak up about. Bullying is one of the things that affects me the most. I find it repulsive that people feel the need to put others down to make themselves feel better. In recent studies 77% of kids have been affected by bullying, 14% have experienced severe reactions to abuse. In certain cases the bullying is so severe that kids commit suicide. Should kid that cause other kids to commit suicide be charged with murder? I think they should for various reasons. Tyler Clementi was an everyday college student. His roommate put a
camera in his room and caught him doing dirty things with another man. His roommate put the video online and Tyler jumped off the George Washington
Bridge, ending his life. This was just one case of extreme bullying, and his roommate was charged but not convicted on charges of murder. Another accomplice Molly Wei was charged with three years of probation and 300 hours of community service yet she helped take someone’s life away. Tyler’s roommate is the first person to ever be charged with murder because of bullying. Personally I think people should have been put on trials long ago for a lot of reasons.
First of all, the families of the victims get closure. All of the families that
are affected by bullies who cause kids to commit suicide need closure from this traumatic experience. Most families on the news ask why their kids are pushed so far that they take their own lives and no one does anything about it, the bullies walk off scott free. If bullies got charged with the murder of their kids they would get the closure to know that their child didn’t die in vain and it could set precedence for a new law for bullies.
Second of all, they caused the death of another person. Some people may
say that bullying is part of growing up, but bullying
