Cyber Bullying
There has always been the traditional little person vs. big person, where the big person is the bully. This day in time there isn't just size as a factor. There are different types of bullying but cyber bullying is popular in today's society. You may have heard a teen girl say, "They got dissed" on Facebook, twitter, tumblr, or someone flooded their phone with mean texts. This is an example of what cyber bullying is. The main target group for cyber bullying is teenage girls. Cyber bullying is an ongoing incident that affects teenage girls tremendously and society needs to be aware of how this form of bullying is taking a toll on young girls. Cyber bullying is a new type of bullying, so let’s take a look at the background or how to recognize it.
Bullying is defined as a habitual badgering by an overly empowered person who intimidates smaller or weaker people. Bullying has been around for years, and continues to branch off into six types of bullying. Just to name a few, there’s physical, emotional, verbal, and cyber bullying. Now cyber bullying is a little different than just plain old bullying. Just think of bullying being a plain chocolate cupcake, but to make the cupcake equivalent to cyber bullying some icing, sprinkles, and a cherry on top has to be added. This is because cyber bullying is a notch above regular bullying. Cyber bullying is bullying that takes place using electronic technology. Electronic technology includes devices such as cell phones, computers, iPads, and tablets as well as communication tools including social media sites, text messages, chat, and websites (stop bullying.gov). A lot of innocent teasing happens on Facebook and via text message. With how society’s technology is so advanced teenage girls either use that to their advantage or fall victim to a bully.
