Once various people find out a person’s rumor, it feels like there is nothing to do about or change anything. Once these rumors start to go through a person’s mind, the result of this is either get away from the ones that spread the rumors, find help, or just end everything. This is all because of bullying that can take over many teen’s life. People are bullied everyday, and sixty- five percent of the time, that person doesn’t have a way out of the situation. People try to keep all the rumors and bullied diction to themselves, but it becomes overwhelming and to much to bear. Bullying is initially started in school or social media, and once everyone sees one person being bullied, everyone knows. To most people there is no way out of getting through tough situations like bullying. The last choice a teen can ponder about after being bullied is committing suicide because they feel that there is no one to help them and the only to end all of the lies, rumors, harsh words, etc. is to just end their life, mentally and physically. In the United States, bullying related suicides are the main causes of teen death. In society today, bullying and cyberbullying are major risk factors for teen suicide meaning that the bullies are at risk, especially the victims. According to the NPR website concerning both bullies and the victims, pediatricians highly recommend for each teen to be routinely screen teenagers of suicide risks. These teenagers should be screened for this because they can show signs of mood disorders, substance abuse, and especially all signs of bullying. If you’re bullied, the risks should be mood disorders and substance abuse because bullying can cause multiple things to happen to a person. Not only the victim of bullying can be at risk of suicide, but the bully itself is at rate of suicide based on whatever the person is going through. School is one of the places where a person is bullied which puts them in the emotional state of mind of committing suicide. According to the Megan Meier Foundation website, statistics show that in the year of 2011 school year, 27.8% of students are bullied between the ages of 12- 18. Also, during the school year, 7.8%- 64.5% of people are bullied once or twice every school year to a daily basis. This means that between that percentage, these people are going through a mental depression. Along with this, the percentage that were given, half of these people have thought, attempted, or committed suicide. Even though bullying and suicide are two, different types of subjects, they’re both connected to each other vastly.
According to the stopbulling.org website, the involvement of bullying meaning both the victim and the bully, can increase the chance of them to engage into suicide- related behaviors. Also, teens who report any type of suicidal issue dealing with bullying are likely to report their issues, but the other half of people who don’t speak up are more willing to commit suicide. Rumors, bullying, and suicide are all link together because once the rumors fill the air, others bully, then there is no choice to fall into a deep depression and just end everything.
In Jay Asher’s novel, “Thirteen Reasons Why”, Hannah was overwhelmed by the rumors, bullying, lies, and was just tired of always fighting back. It all started with Hannah having rumors all around her school since her freshman year for having, “ The Best A** in the Freshman Class.” Then, she was stalked in her room, having any privacy, which led to another person trying to touch her in places below. She was also talked about for kissing someone and the whole school knew about, and she also witnessed her friend being raped. Hannah was also touched at the pool in the final chapters of the scenes. At the time she wanted to fight back and refuse, but she just let it happened which came to her last straw of just dealing with everything and fighting back. She tried to seek help, but the counselor didn’t try to help her out, so she knew exactly what to do and just end everything. Hannah fell into a deep depression and reach her breaking point and just figured everything needed to be stopped and there was no way out. Hannah was just sick and tired of the pain caused by friends, rumors and bullied remarks, and fighting back for what she knew what was
right.
Bully- related suicides are the main cause of teen death all over the United States based on any type of rumors and bullying. When people are bullied, they usually feel like there is nothing to do and just go into an emotional stress that makes them feel vulnerable and weak. They feel like they are outsiders to crowd because of bullying because rumors are all over and there is not a person to talk to about it. The best thing for them to do is commit suicide because they did all they could do and are just tired of keeping everything in. This is all because of bullying and rumors once people have suicidal thoughts, it falls into bully- related suicide. This is because of rumors making unforgettable scars, overwhelming bullying, which makes suicide threat to society.
