Bullying is considered a social evil which can be seen all over the globe across all cultures, ethnic groups and socio-economic groups. The number of school children involved in bullying is significant. It has been estimated that about 20-30% of school children are either perpetrators or victims of bullying. Kids learn the act of bullying at a very early stage and the act is repeated in their schooling as well as high school education. Family, teachers and school peer group are the agents of socialization groups to which bullying can be associated with.
There are no positive effects of bullying on a victim. A child or adult who is subjected to bullying suffers both physically and emotionally if victim is of a shy nature. Perpetrator’s dominant personality also increases the emotional pain of a victim. It has been seen that the victim is generally physically weaker in his peer group. Workplace bullying happens frequently. It is considered very repetitive and it often decreases with time. Workplace bullying affects victim’s status and productivity in the organization. His mental balance is distorted and he develops lower self-esteem. Workplace bullying also affects victim’s co-workers and the organization itself (Coloroso, 2013). Workplace bullying basically involves aggressive communication where co-worker is being ignored or harassed. Humiliating a worker in public and assaulting him physically leads to significant bullying whose consequences are very strong and can not be ignored.
