You will not find that at Burlington Coat Factory. Their goals are to keep their current customers returning for more. Burlington’s market strategies are simple; it cost less money to keep your customer than it does to create new ones. Burlington places one printed ad per year in the paper for Black Friday. This may grab the attention of some new customers. However, their true marketing is directly within their stores. Customers receive a loyalty hotline number at the bottom of their receipt allowing for their opinion and in return a discount for a future purchase. Burlington can reverse the phone number and now they have the information needed to send that customer coupons to a store they already shop at. When expecting mother’s register with Burlington, they will also receive coupons every three months for a year. This again allows the customer to keep returning to a store they already shop at. Their market segmentation is divided into many different categories because they have so many products. One of the main market segmentations is the “Baby Depot”. This is a department within the door dedicated to expecting mothers. It carries anything an expecting or new mother could need. In this specific market segmentation, Burlington went for marketing to
Women in general and now they can market to pregnant women.

Burlington has worked on target segmentation by placing coupons in magazines that expecting mothers would read. They also carry many of these magazines in doctor’s offices when expecting mothers are there for their appointments. It is a target market and Burlington has done a great job on making it easy on the expected mother to save money through their coupons, find the “Baby Depot” inside the store, and register for baby shower gifts through Burlington’s services.
