Scenario 1: The approach to running a trade show booth is to remember specific details in mind about the components, equipment and each and every item that is to be transported to back to the head office, at the closing of the booth. We are in charge of setting up a consumer electronics trade show mainly consisting of products including dry batteries, cell phones, laptops, computer accessories, phone accessories and monitor LCDs. We are charged to ensure that these products are safely returned when the trade show is over. Since we are liable to the security of these products, we must consider numerous of methods that we can use to categorize these products into their individual groups in order to keep track of them when transporting them back to the main office. By classifying smaller merchandises, such as dry batteries, we can categorize them into one shipment package that can be transported safely back. Other products like cell phones and their accessories, can be pack together so as to safely ensure the products are securely returned to the main office. Likewise, keeping computer accessories with laptops and keeping LCDs separate, will ensure that the products do not get damaged during transportation. A data base system is not that essential for managing this type of equipment, although it is a advantage to have it, it has the potential of becoming costly, when we can easily manage the tracking of these items through Microsoft Excel software. Every product that is being categorized can be easily documented in Excel. There are some advantages and disadvantages for using Excel for storing information. First of all, Excel is really portable and can be easily sent over e-mail and can be synchronized to PDAs such as iPhone. Additionally, it can be password protected for extra security; a password can be easily created by any user directly through Excel. When we
