Good morning ladies and gentlemen. My name is Richard and today, my group and I will be presenting a new concept of Kopitiam that would be built in one of the HDB centralized area.
Without any further due, these are my group members. This is Elisa, this is Rendy, this is Priska, and this is Chi.
So first of all, I’m sure everyone of you here ever heard of Kopitiam.
What does Kopitiam mean? It literally means coffee shop. “Kopi” is a Malaysian word for coffee and “Tiam” is a Hokkien word for shop.
But do you know who, where and when was the first time Kopitiam was introduced to the Singaporeans? So here’s a little history about Kopitiam.
This man was once a kopikia, a calling for kids who work in coffee shops. But now, people call him KOPITIAM KING. His name is Lim Bee Huat , the founder and chairman of Kopitiam now. He was only a sixth grade graduate. But yet, he is a very successful man.
Kopitiam was first established in 1988 at Bishan Street 11. Lim Bee Huat invested a shocking amount of capital, which was S$2.1million, for his new restaurant. Everyone thought he was crazy but later on in Lim’s life, he proved them wrong.
Next, what is a HDB Centralized Area? It is simply a HDB flat which is located near/close to many amenities such as MRTstations, Bus routes, city centres, etc.
So I think its enough of the introduction. Now my grou p will tell you more about the new concept of kopitiam. Elisa,……. “Concentrate on a specific and 100 percent. Don’t dilute you interest and plans. Go and go and go all the way to achieve your target job, give your heart, soul.” – Lim Bee Huat
