Abstract
According to Locker and Kienzler (2008), business communication consists of 10 business communication trends that affect business and administrative communication. These communication trends include (1) changes within technology (2) a focus on quality and customer’s needs (3) entrepreneurship (4) teamwork (5) diversity (6) globalization (7) legal and ethical concerns (8) balancing work and family (9) job flexibility (10) the rapid rate of change (Locker & Kienzler, 2008). All of these trends play a huge role within business communication, and this paper will show certain trends and what roles they play during day- to- day activities at work. Certain message types will result from the business communication trends.
Business Communications Trends The role that business communication plays within my day-to-day activities at work is very important. Business communication is the source of Boomtown’s existence within the workplace because without it the casino would be non-existence. Business communication allows me to complete my daily activities on a know-how basis. By having this type of communication, I can manage my daily work activities through saving time, making my efforts more effective, communicating my points more clearly, and building goodwill (Locker & Kienzler, 2008).
Trends in Current Workplace The trends that I am using in my current workplace, Boomtown Casino, consist of the changing of technology, focusing on quality and customer’s needs, teamwork, diversity, legal concerns, ethical concerns, balancing work and family, job flexibility, and the rapid rate of change. Concerning technology the trend involves the use of a micros system. The micros system allows me to complete one my daily activities through transactions that involve the handling of cash, credit cards, and comps. These are the different ways that our customers/guests are allowed to pay for the buffet.
