Case 2 Questions
1. Social Responsibility is such an important concept in today’s world. If you do not practice it or worse, do the opposite, you will most likely find your company failing. I believe that every time a tree is cut down, a new one should be planted. If industrials are not conscious of their effect on different habitats and ecosystems, Earth will surely fail. Starbucks launched the Shared Planet website with three main goals: to achieve ethical sourcing, environmental stewardship, and greater community involvement. This is the perfect example of a company that realizes that if we are to succeed and sustain as a race, we cannot allow our industry to become more important than our resources. I think they realized that strong ethical companies are the ones that will be successful for years to come. It seems like they have been involved in socially responsible activities since opening that very first store in Seattle.
2. It is an interesting question. It asks if they are unique in being able to provide great benefits. I believe that most companies are able to provide a very high level of employment benefits. However, some don’t feel the need to or just never have and have no desire to start. Not many want to see their profits lower. I believe a lot of companies are catching on to great benefits equals great employees. My company for example, Walton Communities LLC, has provided an awesome benefits package since day one. We are in the apartment industry and they realize that incredible rewards and recognition leads to incredible employees who love serving their residents with excellence and the Walton way. We receive a 4% match on 5% contribution to our 401k. That is unheard of!
3. I believe they have grown so rapidly due to three things: wise business decisions and practices, ethical and socially responsible activities and great products and atmospheres. I highly doubt that they could have created the same success without
