The city of West Hollywood is nestled between Los Angeles City limits and Beverly Hills in Los Angeles County, CA. For County of Los Angeles Public Health Department, it is a part of Service Planning Area 4. The population is 34,781, with 19,476 (56%) males and 15,305 (44%) females. Median resident age is 40 years old. 77% of residents are Caucasian. Air Quality Index (AQI) is 47.1, significantly worse than US average of 32.0. Health facts for SPA 4 are as follows: Obesity- 26% of children grades 5-9 and 21% of adults are obese. 9.5% of adults were diagnosed with diabetes. 24.8% of adults have hypertension. 26% of adults have high cholesterol. 7.5% of adults were diagnosed with a heart problem. The highest death rate was due to coronary heart disease, followed by stroke, lung cancer, influenza and emphysema/COPD. Causes of premature deaths are Coronary heart disease, homicide, liver disease, suicide and drug overdose. Death rates were higher for men than women in all categories. Death rates were at or below the Healthy People 2010 objectives for coronary artery disease, breast cancer, stroke, lung cancer and motor vehicle accidents.
