Calcium Chloride Powder Research Paper
Why Is Calcium Chloride Powder Used Extensively As A Bleaching Agent?
In simple terms, calcium chloride is an inorganic compound having chemical formula CaCl2 (H2O)x where x can be 0,1,2,4 and 6.
All the salts produced by calcium chloride powder has a unique characteristic that they are highly soluble in water. This helps in applications where you need to remove snow, ice, or frost from any surface or even simple dust removal. It can absorb moisture from the surrounding environment, which is also known as hygroscope. This additional aspect makes it a widely used agent as a desiccant.
How is this inorganic compound prepared?
In majority parts of the world, Calcium Chloride is obtained from naturally available Limestone while mixing with Hydrochloric

Calcium hypochlorite is an ideal chemical disinfectant, especially for water. You will not believe it is even better than household bleaches we get in retail stores by far. They are highly efficient and almost destroy each and every disease caused by varied organisms like bacteria, virus, yeast, spores and fungus. Even in swimming pools, calcium hypochlorite proves to be a very efficient disinfectant. It is normally available in tablet form or a simple white powder which is highly stable than normally used chlorine. Such a kind of cleaning process is known as “pool shock.”

Advantages of using this compound
• It is very cheap only few dollars for good quantities.
• Readily available in swimming pool maintenance stores.
• Only a small quantity can treat gallons of water.
• It can stay for long times and can be preserved. There is no quality harm for long-term storage.
• It is highly effective than normal bleaching chlorine.
• Even in the case of emergencies or disaster conditions, this makes the treating solution and can save the lives of many with a simple 3-step process.

The calcium dissolved really quickly and there were bubbles and foams formed. We then heated the beaker with a hot plate for 2 to 3 minutes, equally distributed the supernatant solution into two test tubes, but avoid pouring the solid. After centrifuging the samples, we added extra HCl solution into the test tubes, there wasn’t any bubbling occurs, so we could continue and put the mixtures into the centrifuge again. And then put the NaCO3 solution into the beaker and wait to allow the CaCO3 precipitate to form. We then tested whether the supernatant solution is still acidic with a piece of red litmus paper, filter the liquid and we had some CaCO3. Dried the filter paper and CaCO3 in the oven, then we broke the CaCO3 into small particles with a glass rod, and dried it one more time. Let it cool and repeat heating, cooling and weighing it until the masses differ between two results are less than…

The element calcium’s name first originated from the Latin name “calx” which means “lime”. It was first discovered in England during the year 1808 by Sir Humphry Davy. He was able to separate calcium into a pure metal by doing an electrolysis process on a mixture of lime HgO, which is mercuric oxide. However, Sir Humphry Davy was not able to do this until after he found out Berzelius and Pontin electrolysed lime into mercury which constructed calcium amalgam. Although he discovered calcium in 1808, calcium metal was not available in large amounts until the beginning of the twentieth century. Before the autumn of 1808, John Dalton, an Englishman, explained the results of his own studies by supposing matter is composed of atoms. He supposed that…

Place 100g of calcium hypochlorite in a mortar and add 250 ml of water in small quantities at a time: between each addition grind the mixture of bleaching powder and water well together and decant the cream-like suspension through a funnel into a 1-litre flat-bottomed flask. Finally, when all the water has thus been used, only a gritty residue remains in the mortar. Fit the flask with an efficient reflux water-condenser, pour 44ml (35g) of acetone in small quantities, at a time, down the condenser and mix by thorough shaking after each addition. The reaction usually starts spontaneously after a few minutes, and a bath of cold water should be available into which the flask may be dipped if necessary to moderate the reaction. Should the reaction show no signs of starting within 5 minutes of the addition of the acetone, warm the flask cautiously on a boiling water-bath until the reaction starts, and then remove it immediately. When the vigorous boiling has subsided, heat the flask on a boiling water-bath for a further 5-10 minutes (not more) to complete the reaction. Cool the flask in…
