One of the major similarities is the protagonist and the antagonist, Buck the protagonist and Spitz the antagonist. Buck has to be the protagonist in both the book because he is the hero, the dog that freed every single sled-dog from the fear of Spitz. Spitz is the antagonist in both stories because Spitz is the dog that is destined to battle Buck. Spitz is destined to battle Buck because they are both fit for leadership and there can only be one alpha in a pack. There is one more similarity that stands out. How John Thornton dies at the end of chapter seven. John is shot with arrows by the Yeehat tribe while Buck is away from the cabin one night. John Thornton is killed that way in both the movie and the book. Johns death was very important to the story because Buck loved and cared for him very much, and Buck never wanted John to leave him.
