He is probably the meanest man I know but he loves me more then anything in this world. My grandfather is Jimmy Sims, and yes he has had a hard life to make him the way he is. He is so hatful to everyone except me, his granddaughter. He hurt his neck awhile back and can not do the construction work he used too. He has a cain and wears the same thing everyday, plaid shirt, kaki pants, and brown suspenders. He has a garden that he loves almost as much as me, an everyday him and James go to work out in the garden. James is a 39-year-old African American male and granddaddy’s “worker”. He pays him sometimes for his hard work but mostly just yells at him for not doing it the way granddaddy wanted him too. My grandparents live in South Carolina in a little town named Rock Hill. When I got down to visit them I say in the small room right across from my Grandmother Billy Sims, she cant stand to sleep in the same room as granddaddy because she says, “she is to temped to smother him because he snores so loud.” I was asleep when granddaddy came out of his bed room storming down the hall busted open my grandmothers bed room door and started beating the bed with his cain screaming “BILL, BILL, WAKE UP AND TAKE THIS DAMN DOG TO THE VET!” She said, “well god Jim it is 5:30 in the morning.” I could already tell this was going to be a very bad day. The doorbell rings and I go to the door to answer its James ready to work, I told him that Granddaddy was already out back in the garden. Then I wisped very softly he isn’t very happy to day; all James said was “never is” and got this large smile one his face. When I walked out back to see what they were up to, like always Granddaddy was pointing with his cain telling James what to do, an like always James never raising his head doing exactly what granddaddy’s says too. I went back inside for a little while, but then I head granddaddy yelling and cussing at the top of his lounges I went running through the back yard passed the

I remember the night my dad left like it was yesterday, and I don’t think I will ever forget. I don’t remember what exactly it was that made him so mad but I’m sure my sister and I were fighting like sisters do. My only really vivid memory of that night was my dad hitting me so hard he left bruise marks on my backside. I could hear my mom and dad fighting so I knew my mom saved me again. Then my dad got really mad at her and he grabbed her by the shoulders and shoved her into the pantry door so hard that both my mom and the pantry door came crashing to the floor. When I got up for school the next morning my dad was gone. Some children aren’t as lucky though and Child Protective Services has to remove them from a bad situation.…

Back at the house that we were staying at, my grandpa and my cousin, who was mentioned earlier, Joey, were fooling around and somehow is devolved into my grandpa pantsing my cousin. While everyone was laughing and teasing Joey, his mom, my aunt Jill, was plotting her revenge. The next day, as we were going down the river, my aunt was relentlessly shooting my grandpa, but that was only the beginning of her revenge. Once we got to the end of the part where you can raft, we got out and went to the grill for lunch. This was where the revenge really happened. After we had all finished our lunch, my grandpa stood up and was looking at the river, over a table where a family was eating. My aunt snuck up behind him, and forgetting he was only wearing swimming trunks, pantsed him! The rest of the family was standing behind my aunt, so we were able to see the looks of disgust on the family my grandpa was facing’s faces. My grandpa immediately pulled up his trunks, and my aunt, realizing what had happened, immediately began apologizing to the family. Thankfully, the family had a sense of humor and was able to laugh it off (and thankfully didn’t press…

I remember staring at the wall with my face feeling hot and wet. The look of confusion and sadness on my father’s face brought tears to my eyes. This memory stained my room forever. This memory tainted my perception of the house. The house slowly transformed into a less innocent version of itself. The feeling of not wanting to forgive was the most painful of them all. I did not understand why she did what she did but it was a fact and we all have to accept facts. I knew that this was the event that would change my life forever. This made me want to leave the house that I so dearly loved before and make something better of…

They were so happy for me, they told me to go clean up, so I did. While I was combing my hair in the mirrior, I was thinking, what about if her family doesn’t like me, especially her father, which is Charles Dickens. It's 6:00, and I comb my hair one last time, and tell my parents i’m leaving. On the way to her house, I tell myself that everything is going to be fine, and I start singing my favorite song again. I finally reach her door step, and ring the doorbell. She answers the door, and she looks as beautiful as ever. She tells me to come in, and before we ate we talked for a bit. I told her a little bit about me, like how I have been a chimney sweep since I was five years old. I tell her this is my last year as a chimney sweep, because i’m getting to old. Then she tells me about herself, like how she has nine sibling, but one of them died when she was only one year old. We finished up talking, and went to the dinner table to…

My grandma not wanting him to live alone decided that she was going to move in with him because he lived in a very big house all by himself. He has an HVAC business and all he drives are vans and big pick-up trucks. His pick-up truck is a 6 wheel machine that wants to be a full size moving truck when he grows up. To get in it you have to put a step ladder or be at least 6 feet tall. If you take a short ride you will become impregnated by the diesel fumes of his engine, driving that truck can only make me think of the pick-up truck commercials where big muscular men drive these huge trucks as if they were actually driving tanks. When you see a truck pass by you, the last person you would expect to be driving it would be an 83 year old woman. This is what happened the first Sunday that I was in town visiting my uncle; everyone got dressed up with the best Sunday outfit, and of course my grandma looked like she was going to an Easter photoshoot. I was expecting to go out and get a taxi to go to church but instead we came out and found my grandma with the truck running tell us to hurry up because we had to go to church. We never figured out how she got in by herself because we had to help each other get…

My mom and uncle went to test drive his new car and once they left out of our drive way they never returned. She was the only one that could bail me out of time out when i got in trouble, the only one that would play dress up with me because I was the only girl growing up, and the only one that allowed me to watch TV until my eyes fell out. I loved staying up late listening to her spooky ghost stories and dreaded waking up early for Sunday morning bible study with her. Grandma Bea was the big sister I always wanted, and regretfully, I am just now realizing it. She had been a registered nurse for years, and worked as a supervisor in a nursing home. Recently, my family began to notice her regular calls were fading from the cheery talk about how great work was, to her worrying someone was stealing from her. Some of her belongings began to disappear. When her mother's jewelry came up missing, my dad went over to make sure she didn't just misplace it. After searching for hours, he plopped down on the couch for a breather when, low and behold, the missing jewels were found in between the couch cushions. As my family's concern for her well-being began to grow, she reasoned this was only what comes of old age along with her lousy eyesight and somewhat hard of hearing. She was not able to drive at night. If she happened to be behind the wheel at night fall, she would pull over to switch seats with someone. Grandma is such a stubborn woman. She argued with the family until they were convinced that she could stay at her own apartment. After all, she lived in a senior living community located directly across the street from her job. She was still a certified registered nurse and was still my father's mother, so he let her be and dismissed it as she disputed. Not too long after that episode, my dad received an urgent message from her exclaiming that there were aliens in her apartment, and she needed to get picked up immediately. As bogus as that sounded, my dad rushed over as soon as he could. He…
