I called walter for supper late that evening, He spoken back and said “ I’m not hungry.” I was thinking about what he said because he has not ate all day. I called him a repeated time and said “come down to the kitchen “ My husband was already sitting at the table with his meal ahead of him. Walter was walking pretty stiffened looking but i did not mind it. His father ask “ What’s wrong with you, boy?” Walter talk back as his common answer “Nothing.” My husband said the same thing just his tone a little more deeper , more resolute. Walter says “ My leg hurts,” My husband commanded walter to take is pants down. When walter undid his belt and his pants went down i was shock and gasped from how much dry blood, bruises, and swelling. I was also thinking what in the world was he doing outside ! my husband said in a demand tone“what happened to you?” And right then and there he said something so outrageous that god probably was listen to the conversation now. Walter said “Mama beat me with a stick,” and he started to cry. I was so mad and shock that i just didn’t say a word. In my head i’m thinking my walter. My baby walter just lied to his father and lied on me , but i kept my mouth trap closed. My husband went crazy he said “If you ever . . . how . . . why . . . If you ever…
It was early in the morning, the house was completely silent, and Judson was the only one awake. Judson swept quietly through the house, he peeked through an open door to his parent's room and it was empty. His parents must have went some where without telling him, again. They left Judson home alone often, well, actually he wasnt fully alone... Judson opens a door across the hall and peeks in. There, in a dark room laid a little girl covered up to the chin in blankets. That was Judson's little sister Holly, he smiled slightly at how cute and peaceful she looked asleep, He slowly shut the door behind him, letting her sleep for as long as she wanted. Judson walked quietly into the kitchen, getting ready to make some breakfast…
A man thinking about one specific event in his life and the regret he has always felt about that night, is the poem Apology to My Father. Back when the male, whos point of view the poems from, was a teenage boy, his father had just come back from war deathly wounded. They are sitting by the fireplace listening to a storm, almost falling asleep, the father tells the son to go to bed and as hes leaving the room, the son goes to kiss his father on the forehead, but hesitates. This hurts his father and the son leans down, but only giving a half-hearted kiss. In the morning his father is dead and that is the regret that will follow the son for the rest of his life. On the Birth of a Son however, is about a father fearing fatherhood and if the child will get along with him, be nice and whether he will be good at fatherhood or a failure, but then he sees his son and…
The wealthy were losing their assets and the poor were scraping for a living. But, my grandpa’s was simple and good. His family wasn’t well off by any means and money was always an issue, but even so he thinks he was too naive to know any better. He lived on a small farm in Oak Hill, West Virginia; with his mom and younger sister, Mary Kathleen. His father left when he was a baby because he wasn’t ready to take on the responsibility of having a child at eighteen. It didn’t seem that his mother knew about parenting either. She would beat him with anything she could get her hands on. Whether that be a belt she was wearing or the frying pan my grandpa took a piece of bacon from when he wasn’t supposed to. My grandpa was left to raise his sister Mary Kathleen on his own, he couldn’t bare to watch her get hurt by the cruelty of their mother, so he protected her in anyway he…
I remember the night my dad left like it was yesterday, and I don’t think I will ever forget. I don’t remember what exactly it was that made him so mad but I’m sure my sister and I were fighting like sisters do. My only really vivid memory of that night was my dad hitting me so hard he left bruise marks on my backside. I could hear my mom and dad fighting so I knew my mom saved me again. Then my dad got really mad at her and he grabbed her by the shoulders and shoved her into the pantry door so hard that both my mom and the pantry door came crashing to the floor. When I got up for school the next morning my dad was gone. Some children aren’t as lucky though and Child Protective Services has to remove them from a bad situation.…
It was a normal day for my grandma, but when she turns on the news it became very far from normal. She see’s that Mt. St Helens erupts. After that, she looks outside, but doesn’t see any ash yet. She then tells my grandpa about this. He was just outside working in his shop and is not surprised about this because of what he had heard before on the radio. He then goes outside and then finally starts to see the ash in the distance. He then gets my aunt who was only 7 at the time, and shows her the ash in the sky. They get inside quickly before the ash gets to their house.…
Back at the house that we were staying at, my grandpa and my cousin, who was mentioned earlier, Joey, were fooling around and somehow is devolved into my grandpa pantsing my cousin. While everyone was laughing and teasing Joey, his mom, my aunt Jill, was plotting her revenge. The next day, as we were going down the river, my aunt was relentlessly shooting my grandpa, but that was only the beginning of her revenge. Once we got to the end of the part where you can raft, we got out and went to the grill for lunch. This was where the revenge really happened. After we had all finished our lunch, my grandpa stood up and was looking at the river, over a table where a family was eating. My aunt snuck up behind him, and forgetting he was only wearing swimming trunks, pantsed him! The rest of the family was standing behind my aunt, so we were able to see the looks of disgust on the family my grandpa was facing’s faces. My grandpa immediately pulled up his trunks, and my aunt, realizing what had happened, immediately began apologizing to the family. Thankfully, the family had a sense of humor and was able to laugh it off (and thankfully didn’t press…
When my mom, me, brothers, and my sister got home mom stormed down to her room and, slammed the door. When we all went to bed all we could hear was them yelling.…
I remember staring at the wall with my face feeling hot and wet. The look of confusion and sadness on my father’s face brought tears to my eyes. This memory stained my room forever. This memory tainted my perception of the house. The house slowly transformed into a less innocent version of itself. The feeling of not wanting to forgive was the most painful of them all. I did not understand why she did what she did but it was a fact and we all have to accept facts. I knew that this was the event that would change my life forever. This made me want to leave the house that I so dearly loved before and make something better of…
They were so happy for me, they told me to go clean up, so I did. While I was combing my hair in the mirrior, I was thinking, what about if her family doesn’t like me, especially her father, which is Charles Dickens. It's 6:00, and I comb my hair one last time, and tell my parents i’m leaving. On the way to her house, I tell myself that everything is going to be fine, and I start singing my favorite song again. I finally reach her door step, and ring the doorbell. She answers the door, and she looks as beautiful as ever. She tells me to come in, and before we ate we talked for a bit. I told her a little bit about me, like how I have been a chimney sweep since I was five years old. I tell her this is my last year as a chimney sweep, because i’m getting to old. Then she tells me about herself, like how she has nine sibling, but one of them died when she was only one year old. We finished up talking, and went to the dinner table to…
My grandma not wanting him to live alone decided that she was going to move in with him because he lived in a very big house all by himself. He has an HVAC business and all he drives are vans and big pick-up trucks. His pick-up truck is a 6 wheel machine that wants to be a full size moving truck when he grows up. To get in it you have to put a step ladder or be at least 6 feet tall. If you take a short ride you will become impregnated by the diesel fumes of his engine, driving that truck can only make me think of the pick-up truck commercials where big muscular men drive these huge trucks as if they were actually driving tanks. When you see a truck pass by you, the last person you would expect to be driving it would be an 83 year old woman. This is what happened the first Sunday that I was in town visiting my uncle; everyone got dressed up with the best Sunday outfit, and of course my grandma looked like she was going to an Easter photoshoot. I was expecting to go out and get a taxi to go to church but instead we came out and found my grandma with the truck running tell us to hurry up because we had to go to church. We never figured out how she got in by herself because we had to help each other get…
It was cold snowy Saturday morning. It’s 430 in the morning, still dark outside . I hear the door knob turn then I hear a click.the door opens you can see the lights on the hallway of the house . My mom is standing there with her coffee and says,”Adam wake up, time to pray, and after…
My sister and I were in my room in trouble for fighting, and everyone else was outside having a great time barbequing and hanging with some other family members. My mom and uncle went to test drive his new car and once they left out of our drive way they never returned. All I remember is hearing a loud bang noise and my dad running and jumping in his truck to see if my mom and uncle were okay. A little time passed and I heard police sirens and…
She was the only one that could bail me out of time out when i got in trouble, the only one that would play dress up with me because I was the only girl growing up, and the only one that allowed me to watch TV until my eyes fell out. I loved staying up late listening to her spooky ghost stories and dreaded waking up early for Sunday morning bible study with her. Grandma Bea was the big sister I always wanted, and regretfully, I am just now realizing it. She had been a registered nurse for years, and worked as a supervisor in a nursing home. Recently, my family began to notice her regular calls were fading from the cheery talk about how great work was, to her worrying someone was stealing from her. Some of her belongings began to disappear. When her mother's jewelry came up missing, my dad went over to make sure she didn't just misplace it. After searching for hours, he plopped down on the couch for a breather when, low and behold, the missing jewels were found in between the couch cushions. As my family's concern for her well-being began to grow, she reasoned this was only what comes of old age along with her lousy eyesight and somewhat hard of hearing. She was not able to drive at night. If she happened to be behind the wheel at night fall, she would pull over to switch seats with someone. Grandma is such a stubborn woman. She argued with the family until they were convinced that she could stay at her own apartment. After all, she lived in a senior living community located directly across the street from her job. She was still a certified registered nurse and was still my father's mother, so he let her be and dismissed it as she disputed. Not too long after that episode, my dad received an urgent message from her exclaiming that there were aliens in her apartment, and she needed to get picked up immediately. As bogus as that sounded, my dad rushed over as soon as he could. He…
“Come on boog we need to go and pick up Granny” “Ok” I say to my Grandma. “Ok Grandma I’m good now, do we have everything “? “Yes we do have everything we have the close the food and the drinks too” said my Grandma . We drove to my Granny’s house, it does not take so long it is alony like 20 minutes to get there. Then we were there and we seen my Granny waiting by her steps and me and my Grandma lafit at her because whenever we go and pick her up she is always by the front steps waiting for us. Then my Granny got in the car but I did get in the back set so she could sit in the front and now it’s time to go and get my Aunty Rithy in Colorado Springs. I would have fallen asleep but I was too excited because it was my first…
