Rain Rain Go away Come again another day is what the saints and new Pastor Rev. Dr. Robert Walker, 59, said to themselves at the 156th Camp Meeting Services at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church-Magothy.
“When we all get together and get on one accord and point our minds in the same direction which is kingdom building and saving souls,” said 2nd Captain Ernest Osborne Jr. of Mt. Zion UMC Magothy Singing Praying Band 31. “It’s a beautiful thing.”
Camp meeting is a 7-day long revival. It typically starts on the last Sunday in August and goes to the 1st Sunday in September. But this year was a bit different because the month of August had five Sundays. So it started August 24th and went to August 31st. Each night there is a different speaker from churches within the tri-state area, Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. Each speaker is told to bring forth the Word of God in his or her own way.
“The diverse congregation and the many souls that will be saved is unbelievable,” said Rev. Gay Green Carden, the Pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church-Jessup, 52. On Thursday during Camp meeting the youth and young adults decided to do something a little different. This year a combined choir of all youth and young adults from the surrounding area churches was formed under the direction of Bret Lane, Director of Several Choirs at Fresh Start Church, 33.
“The choir was an excellent opportunity to not only glorify God,” said Lane. “But to evangelize to those who may not typically go to church for a regular Sunday morning service.”
The choir was made up with the youth and young adults from the ages of 14 and up. With only having one rehearsal under their belts the Spirit was definitely in the mist of it all. “Oh, yall really showed up and showed out,” said Rev. Dr Robert Walker. “I heard the spirit was on a all time high when the service was over.”
There was song for everyone in the service. There was a saying that kept
