Torrey Grey recently lost her sister. She was hit and killed by a drunk driver. The book explains how Torrey is mourning the loss of her sister, Miranda. Looking at the words used in the book, there’s clues that hint that she may be depressed. The author also used dialogue to project to readers that Torrey’s parents are miserable over Miranda's death as well. For example, “”We all need a new start,” my dad says now, looking at my mom.” This supports that everyone in her family is mourning the loss of Miranda. Although, Torrey doesn’t want to express her emotions towards them, she is treating them poorly as if she was taking the anger out on them.
