basketball, and the telephone. Canada has a captivating history. People have lived in Canada for around 20,000 years. Throughout the years, clans known as the Huron and Dene, settled to different parts of Canada and to parts of the United States. The people who moved to Canada are called "First Nations" or Inuits. They settled to Canada a large number of years back. Various First Nations have remained in parts of Canada such as Ontario, Quebec, and Western Canada. They survived by making instruments, and hunting for food. People who lived inland hunted meat such as musk ox, and caribou. The people who lived near the coast hunted for fish. Years later, other individuals traveled to Canada. People from Britain and France came in the 1500s. They taught modern dialects and ways of life to Canada. Later, there was a rivalry among the French and British settlers, because they were not pleased by how their land was taken away. They fought warfare together which also led to terrible conflicts. The British and French also fought against the First Nations. To stop the rebellion, Britain had to send in more forces and later treaties were signed in order to stop the conflict. Later on, in 1982, Canada finally became a self governing country when the act of the British taking control ended (History.com 3). A lot of things happened in Canada. A lot of fascinating vents happened in Canada. One of the famous Canadian inventions is the telephone.
The telephone is known as one of the greatest inventions in the world. The invention of the telephone made a huge difference. Now, we are able communicate to people easily and also call for help. Alexander Graham Bell created one of the greatest innovations of the modern age, the telephone. Alexander Graham Bell was born in Scotland, but immigrated to Canada as a child. At first, Alexander Graham Bell was interested in studying acoustics which was inspired by his deaf mother, Eliza. For his mother to hear him, he spoke by controlled tones directly into his mother's forehead. Two years later, he made a school for the deaf because of his mother. While teaching, he realized the means of transmitting the telegraph. In 1874, the idea of inventing the telephone came to his mind. He later stated “If I could make a current of electricity vary in intensity precisely as air varied in density during the production of sound, I should be able to transmit speech telegraphically”. Two years later, he signed up for the invention of the telephone and it became a success. Before he started, he created diagrams and notes from his father's diary to make the invention possible. Finally, on March 1876, Alexander Graham Bell's telephone invention was granted as the first official patent. On August 10, 1876, a call from his hometown in Branford was known as the world's first long distance call. It was the Great Philadelphia Centennial …show more content…
Exposition on June 25, 1876, that brought the invention of the telephone to life. From the success of Alexander Graham Bell's creation, it was possible to make jobs of other scientists happen and also give them finance. Later in 1922, he passed in his summer home in Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. Bell owes his everlasting status to being the first to create a gadget by methods for an electric current, but he only refers himself as a “teacher of the deaf”. The telephone has turned into the world's most well known machine. Thanks to Alexander Graham Bell we are able to communicate to loved ones across the world (Long 4). Many people acknowledge Thomas Edison for the invention of the light bulb, however, did you know he simply perfected what Henry Woodward, a medical student from Toronto created?
Thomas edison wasn’t even close to creating the light bulb. Two Canadians had the idea to invent what many inventors attempted but failed, the incandescent light bulb. Henry Woodward and a hotel employee, Matthew Evans were neighbors who called themselves scientists. Woodward and Evans created a model radiant bulb with a carbon rod filament that had a resemblance with an invention that was created by a scientist Joseph Swan 20 years ago. Their light bulb contained a tube made of glass filled with inert nitrogen, and a large piece of carbon connected to two wires. The rod filament was later taken to a boiler level and was connected to each end. Of course, they experimented with possible prototypes before creating the carbon rod. Though Henry Woodward and Matthew Evans are the original inventors, Thomas Edison was the one who brought it to the world. Because of financial problems, Woodward and Evans sold their creation to Thomas Edison in 1875. Thomas Edison was granted with the invention and also created the incandescent lamp after. As Thomas Edison bought half of Woodward and Evans invention their work driven to a better world, and the two of them vanished into history. The only thing we know is that Woodward’s creation was invented in Canada, and was sold to Thomas Edison (Ricketts

Basketball was first shown as a practice sport for male athletes in the 1904 olympic games. A Canadian, James Naismith, invented the game of basketball in 1891, while training in the YMCA at Springfield, Massachusetts. Naismith was inspired by a game he played during his younger ages called “Duck on a rock”, which was throwing a small rock at a toy duck aiming for the head. At first, Dr. Naismith was challenged to create a game that could be played inside during winter. To create this “athletic distraction”, he decided to make a game of skill, finesse, and accuracy. Initially, players could only progress the ball by tossing it and bouncing, which is called “dribbling” today, but the word did not come to the game until later. He invented the game by clearing athletic equipment off the gymnasium, asked for two boxes ten feet off the ground, and a soccer ball. When it started, there were two boxes at the ends of the court, with a janitor who retrieved the balls every time it went in the box. He created a list of 13 rules when he created the game. Later, Naismith’s creaton spread to colleges around the world to a women's sport and became famous around the world. James Naismith was offered to call the game “Naismith Ball” but he was modest enough to decline it. Dr. Naismith was put on the basketball hall of fame which is now called The Naismith Hall of Fame (Wonderopolis 4). Now basketball is known as the sixth most famous sport in the world. In conclusion, Canada is a really interesting country and has lots of cool features. Learning about Canada was fun. Canadian culture is amazing, including their history, accomplishments or inventions, and things that happened. There was a lot of things I didn't know about Canada. Canada has many great inventions. A few of the creations are the light bulb, basketball, and the telephone. I learned about the invention of the telephone and why it was invented. I learned who the real inventors of the light bulb are. Lastly, I learned that basketball was invented in Canada.
