Topic Summary Cancer has become one of the world’s leading trends in diseases, both in discussion and in medicinal related research. Major insights and discoveries within cellular biology can be accredited to the drive of understanding and curing cancer. The battle of cancer began to rise in public attention around the era of Henrietta Lacks, who provided the world’s first immortal cell line. Most research of the time, and even up to the past decade, was targeted at the cancerous tumor specifically. This methodology, although still fairly favorable, has seen a shift into the investigation of the cancerous tumor’s microenvironment, that is, the tumor’s neighboring cells and the extracellular matrix that …show more content…
The next step to understanding the microenvironment’s effects, is to understand what can affect the microenvironment, either directly or indirectly. Research into the gut microbiota, which is found in most multicellular organisms, has shown to be a significant effector on the host; whereas both overgrowth of microbes and the lack of can be associated with digestive disorders, obesity, and cancer 1. This article focused on the development of mammary cancer, which causes the most neoplasia-related mortality cases, and on a frequent colonizer of the mice gut, the enteric bacteria Helicobacter hepaticus …show more content…
All three of these sources differ in their usefulness, reliability, and readability. The tertiary sources were the easiest to read, as the vocabulary and concepts are kept at a lower, easier to understand level. Although easier to read, these sources don’t typically present as reliable of information that secondary and especially primary sources can. The primary source provided the most reliability in the information being conveyed since every factual statement is presented with a source supporting the claim, and all new assertions are backed by the methods and results of the offered
