Legalizing Marijuana would bring both federal and civic benefits. The taxation of marijuana would pull millions of tax dollars in. Those tax dollars could fund public projects and reduce the deficit. Many people argue that the tax dollars would only make a trivial connotation difference. The legalization of cannabis would save the US 13.7 million dollars, this is not counting the benefits that would be reaped from taxing the product.
Medicinal marijuana has many proven medical benefits. It relieves pain, kills brain cancer cells, revives appetite in chemotherapy patients, and stops the spread of breast cancer throughout the body. I only listed a small amount of the proven medicinal uses in cannabis published by many scientific and medical studies. Many argue that medical marijuana also has negative connotations. While this may be true the amount of negative side effects medical marijuana has compared to other narcotics used to treat patients with harsh conditions is miniscule. Medicinal marijuana has less than five serious side effects compared to narcotics with pages full of side effects.
It is clear that marijuana should be legalized on both these civic and federal bases. There are so many benefits that could be brought out of this demonized plant. Boosting the economy is also something that the legalization of marijuana would carry aswell.
