I remember what happened last night so clearly. There is a dazzling chandelier at the center of the room about 50 feet up. It blinds me as I gaze upon Capulet atop his grand double staircase. I see …show more content…
Capulet in a velvety red shirt greet his guests.
His silver mask twitches every time he speaks. He slowly descends the left side of the staircase. As he does so, he teases the ladies and tries to get everyone to dance. He comes to a halt at the bottom to converse with his cousin. My gaze drifts to two mysterious men emerge through the back door.
The taller man has striking sea blue eyes that match his blue velvet coat. This man is accompanied by a short, dull man in an unflattering mucus green coat. The blue man rambles to his friend about Capulet's daughter Juliet. I recognize his voice to be of the Montague's son Romeo! The man in green must be his sidekick Benvolio. It would appear that a man dressed in bold golden attire has also recognized the presence of Romeo Montague. He expresses his anger to Capulet, and I recognize the stubborn man to be Tybalt. Capulet calmly tells Tybalt to stay in his place. He informs Tybalt that he will allow the Montague to stay at his feast because Verona regards him highly as a gentleman. Capulet turns away to have a dance. His breeches skip past Tybalt’s knees in a swift gray river. I hear Tybalt swear under his breath a chilling vow of revenge.
I see Romeo lock his gaze with Juliet’s memorizing hazel eyes. She runs her hand nervously through her chocolate brown hair, settling them on her red and silver dress. He dashes through crowd, dodging the half drunken guests to get to Juliet. I hear them speak of silly religious subjects where she is a saint and he is a pilgrim. He insists on kissing her once to rid himself of his sins, then once again to rid Juliet of his sins lining her strawberry red lips. The nurse dashes in to summon Juliet to her mother. Before the nurse parts, Romeo asks her who Juliet's mother is. The nurse informs him who her mother is, and a downcast look takes over his face as he realizes he's fallen in love with a Capulet. Capulet says something, and people start to disperse. Juliet returns to some privacy with her Nurse. She send the Nurse to ask Romeo for his name. She returns and shares with Juliet her findings. Juliet immediately looks miserable. She says “My only love sprung from my only hate”. The guests leave, along with Juliet and her Nurse. I lose interest once again as the servants begin to tidy the room for the next occasion. The life of a mirror is complicated. We know everything that goes on at once. I just witnessed a Montague leave without punishment, Tybalt resist his anger for the first time, and a forbidden love blossom. It's hard to know what's going on and be able to do nothing about it. Perhaps I could prevent a tragedy if I could tell someone about what took place. I can't wait to see what happens next on the other side, and being a mirror on the wall, I'll be able to see and hear everything.
