Carabas Kid's Story Analysis
“...Sometimes quiet is violent / I find it hard to hide it / My pride is no longer inside ... There's no hiding for me / I'm forced to deal with what I feel / There is no distraction to mask what is real / I could pull the steering wheel…”
-Car Radio. Twenty One Pilots The lyrics above by Twenty One Pilots explains how it felt after his car radio was stolen. He talks about how “quiet is violent” ,being alone without any distractions like people or music to keep you from thinking of those dangerous thoughts. The protagonist in Watanabe’s Kid’s Story (2003) had similar characteristics of being alienated and having thoughts of suicide. On his way to his classroom the viewer is able to point out a noticeable difference in Popper’s locker than

According to Professor Heather Paxson (2006) of MIT, gender refers to the characteristics that differentiate men and women’s behaviors and it includes value judgments connected to masculinity and femininity and everything in between. However, as one learns more and more about gender, they question the necessity of gender and even its existence. In the piece X: A Fabulous Child’s Story by Lois Gould (1978 or 2006) gender is portrayed as unimportant in order to have a good life; gender doesn’t matter. It shows that people have a need to categorize everything into groups because if they don’t, the unknown lingers in their minds and they fear it. People fear the unknown and the different, therefore they fear any gender other than the binary. But…

I observed a child throwing a fit at the mall the other day. This child did not want to leave the store and did not want to get into her stroller. She started to throw her head back and scream very loudly. Then she would throw her arms around and kick, in an attempt to not be strapped in. The mother started to yell at her daughter to stop while trying to strap her in. After a few minutes of the child kicking and screaming she was able to strap her in. But the child continued to scream, this was when the mother decided to leave the mall. My recommendation is that instead of trying to force the child into the stroller the parent could have held the child. Trying her best to calm her down, since the child was throwing around her body while the…

Chesnutt’s conjure stories subvert post-Civil War plantation fiction because they touch on the horrors that slaves went through at the hand of their white masters. How African American are treated lesser than human beings. They are objects to whites that can be moved anywhere at the right price and without a moment’s notice to the person and their loved ones. He does not try to make it seem like everything will end up okay in the end. All of the characters do not get a happy ending. The stories bring up matters that are sensitive and need to be looked at with a fresh eye. While there is humor to the stories, Chesnutt subtly lets the Atlantic Monthly white readers know that what many whites did to African Americans was wrong.…

The one poem I found interesting was "Cinderella" by Anne Sexton. I expected the poem to just be a fancy version of the princess tale Cinderella which everyone knows that story. I expected it to be boring and everything I already knew about the fairytale. But this version was a more grim tale of the orginal. The beginning really hooks you with all the little stories about the plumber winning the sweekskates, the nursemaid marring the prince, and the milkman buying into real estate. All these people started out with nothing and unexpectly got wealthy, just like Cinderella. Throughout the story, Anne Sexton uses means of exxagartions. For example, she says " Whenever she wished for anything the dove would drop it like an egg upon the ground."…

What people may not know, or may not have figured out, is that this particular story’s dark messages are mental disorders. Each character in Winnie the Pooh, according The Perfectionist, author of a biomedical blog, has a different mental disorder. Are these disorders going to affect the way kids view others and themselves?…

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children tells the tale of a boy, Jacob, who following a horrific tragedy, follows clues that take him to an abandoned orphanage on a Welsh island. The story begins in Florida, where Jacob lives. Jacob and his father travel to Wales after the apparently murder of his grandfather by a make-believe creature. Jacob learns that his grandfather had lived in a derelict orphanage for “peculiar children”. “It was an enchanted place (Grandpa Portman) said, designed to keep kids safe from the monsters, on an island where the sun shined every day and nobody ever got sick or died. Everyone lived together in a big house that was protected by a wise bird – or so the story went.” (Riggs 2011, p.9)…

Why are some people judgmental towards others? Whether we judge on race, gender, or something as simple as age, judging not only causes anguish but can leave emotional scars people never recover from. Racism is one of the most common of judgmental forms still seen today in our society. Although today we do not find racism as prominent as back in the 1920s and 1930s. When reading the story “The Angel of the Candy Counter” written by Maya Angelou, we can see the damage of racism from a child’s view, and how she dealt with the experience in order to successfully allow us to understand the negative power of racism. As a result of Angelou incorporating strategies such as ethos, pathos, shocking words, and even fantasies to bring out intense emotions she is able to connect with her audience.…
