In order to be successful in a career, an individual must understand their strengths and weaknesses. While competency is defined as being qualified to perform certain tasks, understanding your competency in evaluating arguments will qualify you to build stronger arguments. Knowing your competencies helps you to evaluate arguments because you are able to gauge the if they are the product of logical reasoning or personal bias. Arguments based on solid reasoning are not made under pressure, they apply expertise and are well researched.
See Appendix A for Competencies Survey Results
The Competencies survey showed that I am strong in coping with pressure, taking initiative, applying expertise. Additionally, I scored well at researching, strategizing, and following instructions. Coping with pressure is a strong suit because in tough situations I am able to strive and continue the task at hand. When people fall under pressure, the assignment is most likely not going to be done correctly or efficiently. Possessing initiative means when there is something to be done I will do what I have to do in-order to make sure it gets done. I take action on my own which is the meaning of taking initiative. When working on a task I apply my expertise to make sure job is done correct and efficiently.
Research is needed in order to know topics. Researching reliable sources and gathering as much information as possible is important. Strategies are defined as a careful plans. I strategize so that my method of completion is most effective. Following instructions is needed when you do not know all of the information needed. Without following instructions the job has a probability of not being completed.
See Appendix A for Career Interests Profiler Results
The Career Interests Profiler showed that I am realistic, investigative, and enterprising. All of those put together means to me I enjoy working outside, researching, and taking charge. I am realistic when it comes to working which means I like to be outside and work with my hands. I am investigative, so I like to discover and do research on problems. I am enterprising; I like to take charge and lead people in jobs. Sometimes those jobs take risks. In closing, knowing my strengths are very important. Arguments need to have a backing to them, knowledge of your strengths. Knowledge of your strengths improve your critical thinking. Critical thinking is when you’re able to judge if a claim is true or false in arguments. By critically thinking you’re able to find the fallacies in an argument and make your argument stronger.
