The career goal in which I’m currently working towards is to be a counseling psychologist that is a subfield of psychology. Realizing psychology is a broad field that covers many subfields, interpersonal communication is a very important aspect when interacting with people and clients. Interpersonal skills require communicating effectively with coworkers and clients. Interpersonal skills in communication require possessing the correct communication skills to communicate verbally and non-verbally. In the professional roles of a counseling psychologist, is too carefully and un-interruptly listen to what a client is saying also having the ability to interpret the message effectively. As a counseling psychologist because of the consistent exposure to clients, psychologist put themselves in a position to utilize effective interpersonal communication (Kathleen, A. Vertino 2014). Interpretation the correct body language is just as important as communicating on a verbal basis. In the field of counseling psychology, the communications that take place between professional and client is part of that relationship.
Conclusion
In the most professional fields psychology for example, interpersonal communication is based on interdependent people, which most people are connected in one way or the other. Interpersonal communication involves verbal and non-verbal messages and takes place in various forms. Being competent includes the knowledge on how to adjust communications accordingly to the context with those we interact with.
